Shquata #1 Posted March 23, 2009 I don't know if anyone is interested , but recently , this museum has included/expanded its recognition of Electronic/Video games and Related materials. It is located in Western New York. The museum has a site which includes all toys but there is a seperate site with information about the Video Game related area. Interesing and I of course felt it was my SWORN DUTY to inform everyone. Just a quick check on the Main site and it seems the ONLY game system voted into the HALL OF FAME , is the 2600 . Anyway here are the two links .... For the museum - http://www.museumofplay.org/ and for the Video game specific site - http://www.ncheg.com/ Enjoy, The old guy

VectorGamer #3 Posted March 23, 2009 I think I may plan a road trip! Did anyone see the hours of operation? I could find them listed anywhere.

Robert M #5 Posted March 24, 2009 My family has a membership to that museum. The Atari 2600 used to be set up with PAC-MAN in a darkish corner, they recently moved it into a more open area and put in some sort of multi-cart with a menu. I haven't taken the time to see which games are available to play now. They also have a Centipede Arcade machine behind glass not available for play. Cheers! I was curious if anyone had heard of it or been there. My Niece and Nephew took there kids there and they loved the museum in general but are not realy into the Video Game Thing and I did not get any specifics. My niece remembered I collect for the 2600 and thats how I first heard of it. Then I was sent the online info by my brother and I was just going by the latest info on line. Thought I might check it out while in the general area this summer. Can I ask , when was the last time you were there ? Who knows , maybe it's expanded ? Hopefully it will , I like to see anything that pops up related to the 2600 ! Thanks again, The Old Guy

themrfreeze #11 Posted March 24, 2009 I live in Rochester, and have taken my son to Strong maybe half a dozen times. Last time I was there was last year. They've always had a 2600 set up there with Pac-Man, but there was no special video game section when I was there last. It's an interesting place to visit, but it's really geared towards kids...to go there as a lone adult would seem a little creepy. The entire first floor is full of interactive kid stuff, while the second floor has a respectable amount of museum-type displays that show off the Strong toy collection, upon which the museum was founded. If you decide to go, definitely plan on going during the week, and make sure it's not a week when kids are off from school...the place is PACKED on weekends and school vacations. Also make it a point to walk or drive the ~3/4 mile to Dinosaur BBQ for lunch/dinner...the place is phenomenal!

Glad people who have been there are adding to this. I agree even from just limited online stuff it's geared towards the little ones. I don't know who the lone creepy adult would be? As for myself , as I stated in my posts , just thought others would be interested , in any reference to the 2600 and would make a stop if and when we happen to be in the area. I'm curious if they are expanding the Video game area as much as they seem to be saying? Thanks, The Old Guy
Shquata #13 Posted March 25, 2009 Here is a little more info on this from a small paper. Seems like it is a work in progress and may grow in the future. I just thought I would mention it The Old Guy
+atari2600land #14 Posted March 25, 2009 I mentioned this last September... here's the link By the way, the Toy Hall of Fame used to be here in Salem, Oregon at the Gilbert House, until it moved to Rochester NY for some reason.
VectorGamer #15 Posted March 26, 2009 I guess it would have been fitting if Walter Day had opened this museum in Iowa?
