VectorGamer #1 Posted March 26, 2009 Defender I was playing the Colecovision cart last night and I would get killed in 1.5 seconds flat...and then again 2 seconds later... Final score = 800 I always sucked at this game - in the arcade and on the console. But like a masochist, I keep coming back for more.
kroogur #2 Posted March 26, 2009 Pac Man Even though it is one of my favorites I never could seem to memorize the "patterns" or whatever and i die rather quickly but i keep coming back for more!!
Mazerati #3 Posted March 26, 2009 after over 27 years i still die within minutes on the arcade Defender also i was never any good at Donkey Kong Jr
keilbaca #4 Posted March 26, 2009 after over 27 years i still die within minutes on the arcade Defender also i was never any good at Donkey Kong Jr Same here with Defender. Atari 2600, I can roll the score. Arcade, I'm mince meat. Also, Sinistar. I love the game so much, I played it so much, and only once I beat level 2. +Ransom #5 Posted March 26, 2009 After all these years, I'm still not very good at an entire class of games: platformers. I'm pretty lousy at timing jumps.
ten-four #6 Posted March 26, 2009 Defender has a short gameplay, no doubt about it. And for me are Miner 2049'er and Yie Ar Kung-Fu for ColecoVision real hard. An odd game for ColecoVision must be Victory.
Classic Pac #7 Posted March 26, 2009 My Hero SMS my score is slow low because I can not even survive more than a few seconds of this game R-Type SMS , I fully admit I usually play using the invincible code other wise around a score of
NE146 #8 Posted March 26, 2009 I like to think I'm relatively good at arcade Defender.. at least I can get an extra man with my highest score being about 100k (far far from the elite players I know.. but good enough for me ). I'm also good at Robotron and the other big name games. HOWEVER.. I totally SUCK at Asteroids. I cannot for the life of me over the past 20-30 years get the hang of that game and struggle to even get a first extra man at 10k
Atarifever #9 Posted March 26, 2009 Megaman games. I've been playing Megaman 9, with continues. In five weeks I have beaten Galaxy Man. Oh, and I saw Jewelman for about 8 seconds.
JamesD #10 Posted March 26, 2009 I think the highest wave of Defender I ever got to was 4. And I died instantly after getting there. Never was able to do that before or again. Sinistar and XEVIOUS always kicked my butt. I didn't memorize patterns so Pacman wasn't too fun either.

Only ever played the coco 3 version but have managed to get close to 200,000 score on that game. No idea if this version is easy or is just as hard as the other versions floating around. I'm crap at any defender type games. only ever make it to level 4 and then die pretty quick. laters Briza
Gabriel #12 Posted March 26, 2009 Colecovision Defender is significantly harder and closer to the arcade in difficulty than the other ports of the day. If you want to enjoy the Defender vibe without the ego crushing difficulty, try the 5200 version.
NE146 #13 Posted March 26, 2009 Sinistar and XEVIOUS always kicked my butt. Sinistar (the original) kicks everyone's butt.. I don't think anyone in the world has gotten good at the game. It's impossible
S1500 #14 Posted March 26, 2009 I wonder if Defender would be easier if your ship didn't pan left & right at odd times. It really messes up your perspective, sometimes ramming you straight into baddies due to navigation errors.
JamesD #15 Posted March 26, 2009 I was talking original arcade versions.

Red 5 #17 Posted March 26, 2009 Sinistar and Defender have to be the two hardest games ever made.
+FujiSkunk #18 Posted March 26, 2009 Arkanoid Great game, and the home versions don't present too much difficulty, but I consider myself extremely lucky if I even make it to the third level. Forget getting past that level.
NE146 #19 Posted March 26, 2009 Sinistar and Defender have to be the two hardest games ever made. But at least Defender IS masterable. Tons of people have done it. The more you play it, the better you get at controlling your ship, and you see your skill level and gameplay get better and better the more time you put into it. It's all about the controls really, and that's something the home ports just naturally fail to do since they (necessarily) have to translate the ship controls into a single joystick movement. The same can't be said about Sinistar though.. bleh
JamesD #20 Posted March 26, 2009 Berserk was kinda tough.

JamesD #23 Posted March 27, 2009 Yes- Berzerk is pretty tough and I always get smoked on Frenzy. I never got to play Frenzy but I heard it was worse than Berzerk.
JamesD #24 Posted March 27, 2009 After thinking about it... there are a lot of games I sucked at. Venture (never made it through all the rooms on level 1 more than a couple times). There was some color vector graphics game by Atari that I really sucked at. Battlezone etc... It's not that they were terribly hard, I just didn't want to spend that many quarters and never liked memorizing patterns.
muchomojo #25 Posted March 27, 2009 I've been obsessed with PS1 space shooters lately "Einhander, R-Type Delta, Thunderforce 5, etc", and I suck at all of them. I've really liked this genre since I was a kid and played Gradius, but the memorization really bugs me.
