shadow460 #26 Posted March 27, 2009 (edited) Games I suck at: Defender (any version) Pac-Man Sirius on the 7800 OTOH, I rock at Asteroids and most vertical SHMUPs Edited March 27, 2009 by shadow460
+Random Terrain #27 Posted March 27, 2009 When it comes to classic games, I try to suck on purpose. If I 'master' a game, it usually won't be fun anymore. I have little interest in beating games. I just want a few minutes of fun and then back to work.
fdurso224 #28 Posted March 27, 2009 Hi guys, Super Mario Bros. 2 japanese version. I can't beat that game even with a gun to my head! That game makes me want to go Happy Gilmore on it like he busted the miniature golf clowns nose. YA GONNA DIE SMB 2!! (^_^). Anthony....
Red 5 #29 Posted March 27, 2009 Sinistar and Defender have to be the two hardest games ever made. But at least Defender IS masterable. Tons of people have done it. The more you play it, the better you get at controlling your ship, and you see your skill level and gameplay get better and better the more time you put into it. It's all about the controls really, and that's something the home ports just naturally fail to do since they (necessarily) have to translate the ship controls into a single joystick movement. The same can't be said about Sinistar though.. bleh I agree with you. When I got to play Defender over and over again on MAME and configured the buttons so they made sense to me personally, I got better and better at it. Still though, you can get your ass kicked in no time on that game. You know... changing subjects... Gorf was a pain in the ass in the arcade, come to think of it. pinball22 #30 Posted March 27, 2009 Yeah, I've always completely sucked at Defender, every version. And like everyone else, I suck at Sinistar, but that doesn't stop me from continuing to try... somehow I find sucking at Sinistar more entertaining than being good at lots of other games. For some reason I can't think of anything else that I'm notably horrible at, though I'm sure there are some things... I think I'm blocking them out. Tempest #31 Posted March 27, 2009 Space Channel 5. I loved the concept of the game so much I actually practiced it hoping I would get better. Nope, I just plain suck at it. Oddly I'm pretty good at most rhythm games, just not SC5. Thank god it has a 'self play' mode so I could see the ending. Tempest
pinball22 #32 Posted March 27, 2009 SC5 is hard, and gets really hard as it goes on. I found it helps to keep the beat by shaking the controller.
theking21083 #33 Posted March 28, 2009 I find that Defender on the Colecovision is fairly easy. Probably the easiest port I have played of it. I was able to roll the score about 4 times before finally turning it off. I was playing for about 5-6 hours straight. Donkey Kong on the Colecovision is also an easy port. I broke 1 mil on the hardest setting.
roadrunner #34 Posted April 1, 2009 I really stink at DT Racer for the PS2.
+Lynxer2007 #35 Posted April 1, 2009 Played Battletoads on Genesis a few days ago. Damn! And also, Rainbow Six: Lockdown for PC
Reaperman #36 Posted April 1, 2009 defender has come up a few times, and I am really terrible at it, but I'm also not really motivated to play it or get better. Spyhunter (NES Port) is far worse for me, because I do really want to be good at it, but I'm just horrible. If that weren't bad enough, I've also recently ordered Super Spyhunter on the same system--but that seems more like a scrolling shooter so maybe I'll be able to handle it. NE146 #37 Posted April 1, 2009 defender has come up a few times, and I am really terrible at it, but I'm also not really motivated to play it Well to be fair, how many of us have access to a Defender machine in this day an age? I know I don't. And no, the home ports don't count
+Cafeman #38 Posted April 1, 2009 Agree on Sinistar in particular! I remember memorizing all the strategies from a Joystik mag back in the day. Went to Aladdin's castle to try out all this wisdom, and I died just as quickly as before. Then I got Sinistar on the Williams emu packs, starting in the Playstation/Saturn days. I'd put the game on easiest setting with loads of extra ships - still could barely beat 2 Sinistars! It is so hard to accurately mine crystals while avoiding getting shot by Warriors. Too hard! JEFF31 #39 Posted April 3, 2009 I've read this tread before and ... well sometimes I just suck at everything! Doesn't matter which game I play or which system... I just need to walk away from the system and try again tomorrow.
lushgirl_80 #40 Posted April 3, 2009 I was never good at E.T.for 2600. Keep falling and stuff
NE146 #41 Posted April 3, 2009 I was never good at E.T.for 2600. Keep falling and stuff You're supposed to fall.. to get the stuff to finish the game. And if you accidentally fall where you don't want, just press the button quick and catch yourself in midair.. and be more careful next time.
VectorGamer #42 Posted April 3, 2009 I can add Pitfall on the 2600 to this list

rpgfaker #47 Posted April 18, 2009 Pitfall II Lost Caverns...gaaa! That game kills me I can never time the bats or the frogs, yet I play it for 3 or 4 hours whenever it's in the Atari. Stressful fun!! Dragon's Lair arcade was another I could watch other people play it but if it was my quarters I couldn't get past the bridge!
NightSprinter #48 Posted April 18, 2009 Gradius in general for me. I'm also playing some Star Force and Star Soldier (after having played "Star Prince" in Retro Game Challenge for the DS, recommended buy). I'm gonna have to do some exercising for my wrists and purchase a Hudson Shooting Watch so I can work on my rapid-fire skills.
dgo #49 Posted April 18, 2009 Bagman ! But I must admit I never *really* tried to get into this game. Although I like it, everytime I play it I get so demotivated when I get killed over and over again at the first level..
AtticGamer #50 Posted April 18, 2009 Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan - This game is evil. Metroid - I'm good at Contra but this is too hard and confusing, and becomes boring. Any fighting game besides the Street Fighter ones, I just can't get into them. I can play some 2D Mortal Kombat though. Pseudo-3D tunnel Sonic special stages - I can't stand the quick turns with explosives right down the corner.
