Guitar Hero characters

So I made up a custom character in Rock Band World Tour but how do I use him? If I go into quick play it just randomly generates a band. Is there a way to use the character you create in the game? Seems like that would be the only reason to create a character, but I'll be damn if I can figure out how to do it. The manual is no help. For as much as you can do in that game, the manual is like 5 pages.

Play the career game and then your character will appear. Quick play always chooses a random character.
