Trouble Running OSS Action! with Atari800Win PLus

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have two versions of the OSS Action! One I downloaded on this site and the other I just dumped from my original cartridge today - I learned how today out of desperation :) Both (different) versions I have work the same way with the Atari800Win PLus 4.0 emulator.

The program first starts out in the "Editor" mode. Pressing <SHIFT+CTRL+M> brings it to the "Monitor" mode. Enter "E" at the ">" prompt to re-enter the "Editor" mode. But this time in the "Editor" mode, I cannot use <SHIFT+CTRL+M> to bring it back to the "Monitor" mode - or issue any other keyboard commands. I have to resort to RESET which wipes out the memory.

Can anyone please help me with this problem?

Thanks.

You probably need to mess around with the various emulator cartridge settings when you fire up that ROM till you find a setting where the cartridge will work properly (unless it's been dumped incorrectly), otherwise just get a cartridge image of that rom that you know full well that works

You can't just "dump it" in a straight forward way like most older game carts.

It's a 16K bank switched cart, so you'd need to invoke bank switching before dumping the lower $A0-$AF page blocks, and you'd need to do it in the right order so it would work in the emulator.

Thank you all for trying to help me with this issue. I can give you an update, and in turn, answer some of your questions pertaining to the accuracy of my Action! files. I have been searching around for an answer to my problem and ran across the Atari++ emulator. I have been completely successful using Action! with Atari++ (Load, Save, Compile, Execute, etc.) I still consider the Atari800Win PLus the "golden standard" and still wish to be able to use it for all of my emulator needs.

However, Atari++ does offer some very unique features such as full support for the "H:" device which is very nice for copying the files on your Atari disk images over to your PC hard drive and the the built-in DOS is very useful. I personally use SpartaDOS ever since I added the US Doubler to my 1050 disk drive many years ago. The UI on Atari++ is usable but it's not as nice as A8W. To open the UI in Atari++, press F1 or click anywhere on the window.

The problem is that Atari800WinPlus is not up to the current revision of the Atari800 emualtor code base that it is based on, and there is no one maintaining it. Action! will work fine with Atari800 on Linux or Windows, or with Atari800MacX if you have a Mac.
