MacGurl #1 Posted September 22, 2002 I went to some garage sales today to see if I could score any video game finds. No luck all day, until we got to the last garage sale. The lady had an Atari 2600 with 18 games. I figured, I could always use another one, so I was going to buy it..thinking surely she wasn't asking more than $40 or so. She wanted $250!!! She said that was a great price as she saw them on eBay for $500. My friend told her that we find them on eBay for $30 or less, and she wouldn't hear it. "I'm not pushing anyone here to buy it as I'm asking 1/2 of what I could get it on eBay. So, if you're not interested in paying that much, then don't buy it." UGH! Then again, it's probably the expensive habit that's making her jack up the price to begin with..
StanJr #3 Posted September 22, 2002 Ladies and Gentlemen further proof that ebay is poisoning our world. The fact that ANYTHING at a garage sale is priced over $25 is amazing to me. I mean, isn't the idea to get rid of your crap? Damn profiteering bastards. It would do that lady some good if everyone laughs at her folly (and her overpriced atari )
King Atari #4 Posted September 22, 2002 HA! She's lucky I wasn't there, I woulda told her off. B*tch.
Stella'sGhost #5 Posted September 22, 2002 That is nutty, some people don't know anything, and there's no use in explaining it to them either, and that pisses me off even more. What cha gonna do?

Atari Master #8 Posted September 24, 2002 You can't blame these people. It's ebay's fault. The thing is that she probably seen a gamelot of 100 or more games and thought the system was the thing making it so much. But anyway, for telling you off like that, she's a BITCH! sdstuff64 #9 Posted September 24, 2002 Wow,that sucks. What the hell is she smoking?Tell her to look on ebay next time.
NE146 #10 Posted September 24, 2002 Well you can't really argue with what she said. I mean come on, she's the one selling it and if her price is too high (which obviously it hella was) then you just don't buy it. What she said was true! (except maybe that she's getting 1/2 of what she could get on ebay.. that much is wrong). But then again, who are you/we to force the issue on her? That is, if she's not willing to bargain, then forget it. walk on.. walk on
Albert #11 Posted September 25, 2002 Well, I'm sure no one bought the system from her at that price, so at the end of the day she either stuffed it back in her garage or she'll put it up on eBay and be disappointed to net only a small fraction of what she was asking for. She probably went to eBay, searched for "Atari" or "Atari 2600", sorted by price (highest first) and then picked the first system she saw. Just for kicks and giggles, I searched for completed auctions featuring Atari 2600 systems with games. The highest is this auction which includes 470 games and 16 units, and ended at $631, below the Buy it Now price of $1050. The next highest auction ended at $435 and included 189 games. $40 for a system with less than 20 games is much more reasonable. ..Al
Ushabin #12 Posted September 26, 2002 Sort of makes me wonder why she was selling it in a garage sale for $250 IF she could get $500 for it on eBay. Maybe it was because she knew it was worth about $30 on eBay and was trying to take some poor sucker that didn't know any better. I was out at a flea market eariler this summer looking for game stuff. I came across a kid (maybe 13-14) selling a PS One and a few games. I asked how much he wanted for it, expecting $40-$50. When he said $299, I just sort of snickered and walked off. It was obivious he was trying to sell the PS One and turn around and buy a new console. Garbs #13 Posted September 26, 2002 I hear ya bruthas and sistas, I would've lit into that woman too. 250 bucks, go suck a grape. I ran into a simliar situation at a grage sale over this past summer where the lady wanted to sell me a Nintendo 64 for like 50 bucks. I kept trying to get her down to like 20 bucks. She had a bunch of games too. But she kept saying that her daughter says they sell for 50 bucks on eBay. I was like, "well, then, why isn't this up on eBay?" And she was like, "oh, well, um, yeah, we were going to do that. . . " I said, "well, good luck to ya," and I walked away, hoping she would continue to haggle, but no such luck. Some people just think this stuff is worth so much money (and granted, some of it really is), but c'mon, as StanJr says, aren't you supposed to be getting rid of your junk? If you know you can get 50 bucks for something, well, then, list the G-darn thing on eBay and get out of my face. I guess I'm still sour over that. :-) My .
