How do you get your ST online?

What program do you use to get your ST online? On my main ST I use STiK and on my dedicated music ST I use STinG.

 

So, what do you use?

I was actually referring to how do you get it online now... I use it for web browsing all the time!

How fast of a modem do you have on it? What kind of Winsock and browser are you using? Last I heard only the Lynx (no relation to the game system) was the only thing available for it...)

I'm using a 56k at 14.4 with CAB as a browser with STiK for the PPP stack and TCP/IP stuff. On my main ST anyways.

Here's my problem: I can't see doing ANYTHING at 14.4 anymore, having tasted of the forbidden fruit of 56K and DSL on my PC. It has to be mind-numbing.

If I turn off graphics I really can't tell the difference between 14.4 and 56k. Now as for DSL...

Back in '93 I used ANSI Term with a fast 2400 baud modem. I'd really like to set it up again so I can go BBSing, but I don't have a phone modem nor a phone jack. I did buy a Lantronix UDS-10, but never set it up. I'd love it if someone would do a step-by-step video for use with an Atari. Anyone?

AtariAge user Omega aka --- Ω --- posted a definitive guide on the UDS-10. I used his "Getting Your TI on the Internet.pdf" to program my UDS-10 to behave like a standard modem. That's really all you need to do for the ST.

 

You do need a 25 pin serial cable (female <---->male) which was always required to hook up a modem, so same thing when using the Lantronix.

As for the ST, I still use STalker terminal software which is what I was using years ago.

I thought this was a nifty topic at first and then I saw the thread dates hehe. I'm using my Mega STe with NetUSBee with internet through my Mac so I can browse the web with CAB, FTP with Litchi, etc, etc

Turn off the gfx in CAB and its fast and dandy. Telstar is a great telnet client for cool BBS's like Darkforce. Loving it like it's the 90s!

I seldom use my Ataris for full network access. However a great solution for file transfer is the UIPtool made by sqward. It runs with Netusbee and turns the Atari into a file server with a web interface. One can easily transfer files to the Atari from a web browser on the PC and also download stuff from the Atari.

A very very useful tool which doesn't require configuration as it brings its own TCP/IP stack and configures the LAN adapter with DHCP from your local router.

Is there a version of UIPtool that works with CosmosEx?

I don't think so as CosmosEx makes use of the RaspPi LAN port and software on the RaspPi. UIPtool has a special driver for the Netusbee and compatible cards builtin.

Anyway the CosmosEx has other means of providing network access so UIPtool is not necessary for filetransfers.

Hellz yeah. That's what I used with my 1040STf and SX212. I was an online terror to the local BBSes. Shame Atari Corp didn't bring out faster modems because the SX212 was such a great idea since it could be used by both STs and 8-bits.

 

I can't remember what I used with my Falcon later on but I upgraded to a Practical Peripherals 14.4K Modem that I'd use with it and also take over to my friend's house to hook up to his PC since he only had a 2400 or 4800 baud modem installed in his HP Vectra. At university, I was using my Falcon to log in and then use the Lynx text browser to go onto the net all throughout 1995 and into mid 1996 but I needed a PC by then.

I am using a NetUSBEE and have scoured the Internet looking for ways to get on, is there someone in the Ontario are that can help me with a Rogers setup for Stik? I would like to get on line at least to try it out on my Mega ST4.

rcamp48. I am in Mississauga.

 

I would use STiNG.. but STIK is the original.

 

you need to set the config.. put i your gateway address. setup dhcp if your using it.. or static IP.

 

STiNG there is a pretty comprehensive manual STIK I am sure there should be as well.

I pretty much only do telnet these days with my Atari's. Telnet to my BBS (of course),

as well as others like Star Fleet (and many more besides).

 

I'm using a UDS10 with my STacy. Sometimes I get really fancy and go wireless with it.

 

Software wise, I usually use TAZ or ANSITerm. Been meaning to give Telstar a real try

but haven't gotten around to it yet.

NetusBee would be the easiest or Hydra (a NetusBee without the USB ports).

 

Hydra with Sting is what I use, superb.

these days i use an atari 1200 baud modem and the terminal prog vt52 emulator i think

 

just to call BBSes.
