DaytonaUSA #1 Posted April 2, 2009 Sometimes it's fun to go digging back in the closet or your basement. You find stuff you forgot you had. Today, I found a whole stack of instruction booklets from my childhood, many for the NES, including Bump & Jump, Mario Bros/Buckhunt, Mario 3, Robin Hood, Disney Magic Kingdom, ect. Was really nice seeing all of these again. I remember reading these bookets from cover to cover , and Super Mario Bros. 3 is very dear to me as it was the first game I ever bought with my own money. Heck, I still remember going to Toys R Us...looking for 30 minutes till I picked Robin Hood and Disney's Magic Kingdom . What have you guys found recently, hidden and long forgotten? It's funny when you find old gaming magazine. LOL the December 2000 issue of PSM said the Dreamcast would be the second best selling console of it's gen. I have a pc gaming magazine I recently found of that pc/dc game called slave zero. You know that one game with no music with an odd mech thing (it sucked). I still remember drooling over those pictures though, thinking to myself how graphics coudln't get much better than that.
Chickybaby #4 Posted April 3, 2009 I know what you mean. I have a lot of promo and demo discs for Dreamcast, PS/PS2, XBox, and Gamecube as well as VHS tapes for N64 at least. And of course stacks of magazines and strategy guides and even the How to beat/win at Pacman book *somewhere*. Oh man, and I have a bunch of old "EB TV" discs. Talk about scary, lol, although I don't plan on EVER watching those Even if it would be funny to see what games they were pushing at the time! Its one of my favorite oddities to collect besides stufferd animals and demo toys.
oldgames #5 Posted April 4, 2009 Actually, it was exactly this that got me started in collecting / playing the classic games. There I was, standing in my garage minding my own business, when I uttered those fateful words.... " Wonder what's in those boxes?" Turned out to be my Atari and C64 stuff as well as my 2 sons NES and SNES sytems. That, I believe, is what is called a 'turning point'.
shadow460 #6 Posted April 4, 2009 Wasn't recent, but my old SuperCharger and games turned up two or three years ago. Good times! I dumped the games and I play them from the computer now. Good times!
DaytonaUSA #7 Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) Awesome stories guys. While not looking in the closet, I decided tonight to play a system that I might not have turned on in a while. I got the US N64 powered up again after realizing I had games that I honestly thought I still needed (like Battle for Naboo and Glover). I haven't played the N64 in quite a while, been on a Playstation fix lately, and.. er.. some of these games have NOT aged well, Battle for Naboo and Shadows of the Empire included. Why I remember these games being so great, is beyond me. The control was horrid, and, at least on my big HDTV, the textures are more like a big grainy blur. But hey, I ended with F-Zero X...you can't go wrong with that game . I think next up to play again is the SNES. I noticed I had some games like 7th Saga... that I know I haven't even gotten to play yet. Is this a bad sign? That you have so many games you can't remember what you own? And for that matter, you have so many games you still haven't played them all yet? I still think I have 4-5 PS3 games that I have yet to even boot up. It's like having my own game store that I can shop for what I think I need, but I don't have to pay anything. bfutrel #9 Posted April 4, 2009 I found a boxed copy of DUNE CD-ROM version for the PC in some boxes while cleaning my office. To give you an idea of how old it is, the system requirements list a 386 running at 20mhz.
