thursday83 #1 Posted April 3, 2009 Playing it tonight, I just can't seem to imagine how anyone can rescue all the people. Am I crazy or is this totally impossible? Seem like it just isn't going to happen after 22 years. Do I give up? Never any luck, some plane or tank always seems to blast me no matter how quick I try to be. Let me know.... Bakasama #5 Posted April 3, 2009 I managed to get the perfect game myself. I just start out by going to the farthest enemy base and work my way closer to the homebase with each sortie.

Bakasama #7 Posted April 3, 2009 I managed to get the perfect game myself. I just start out by going to the farthest enemy base and work my way closer to the homebase with each sortie. Interesting strategy! The reason I do that is because I found out the game gets harder as time goes by. Doing this makes Choplifter a bit easier. roadrunner #8 Posted April 3, 2009 I managed to get the perfect game myself. I just start out by going to the farthest enemy base and work my way closer to the homebase with each sortie. I also play Choplifter! this way. It does make the game a bit easier, but i never had a perfect game tho. The best i can do is rescue 62 of 64 people. Those Jet Fighters are a real pain. They even follow me back into the safe area. And the Air Mines are HUGE. I keep flying into them.

That's a little better then I can do- mostly I can't see the 'air mines' what a pain if they trap you on the ground!

When you free the hostages and then fly back to the base, notice how they will chase after you but won't cross an invisible border. You can use this to area to pick up the hostages. Granted it makes the game last longer but it really cuts down on the time you have to spend in enemy territory. darthkur #11 Posted April 4, 2009 ....the Air Mines are HUGE. I keep flying into them. I don't understand why the 7800 version was programed that way. Every other port of Choplifter I've played the air mines of reasonable size but on the 7800 one they're about five times that.
+remowilliams #12 Posted April 4, 2009 I don't understand why the 7800 version was programed that way. It's because the 7800 version suuuuuuuuucks.
Bakasama #13 Posted April 4, 2009 It's because the 7800 version suuuuuuuuucks. Sure it sucks when compared to the other versions but at least it was a lot more fun than Karateka.
+remowilliams #14 Posted April 4, 2009 Sure it sucks when compared to the other versions but at least it was a lot more fun than Karateka. True, but that's not much of a recommendation. The cardboard box that 7800 Karateka comes in, is more fun than the game itself.
Atarifever #15 Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) Here's evidence it can be done... Ha Ha Ha..pwoned!!! Not once does the jet fly through and attempt to bomb the chopper on that video. Am I the only one that happens to? Notice what he does though. He always stops and lands with the base just off screen, then he bombs the base and lands in one movement. And he lands about an inch from the door he just blew up. I'd imagine something in there is keeping the jets away. I'll give it a try later. No jets at all. Trick is to stay on the side of the bunkers closest to your Post Office. This game now has no replay value to me.

Atarifever #18 Posted April 5, 2009 I take it back; there is still replay value. The pattern allows for a perfect game, it does not guarantee one. The closest I have come since is two dead guys away from perfect. If you're too far from the door, too long killing a tank, you fly too far, etc it seems to throw the pattern off, so you have to be very good. The pattern does seem to guarantee no jets in general though, which is a huge help.
Atarifever #19 Posted April 7, 2009 I got another perfect game last night. I purposely crushed each and every one of the little fuckers myself. I hate them.

+Trebor #22 Posted October 11, 2014 Was able to obtain a perfect game a few times - one of those occasions is recorded here. Often times though, I'd miss by one or two hostages.
