nathanallan #1 Posted April 7, 2009 The project: rack-mount a Genesis Model 1. The parts I need so far are the 64-pin card to go from the cart slot, 30-pin card edge socket to lead from the CD exp. edge (CD to be done afterwards), and that pretty much is all. The rest of the parts are things like stand-offs, screws, and a Dremel to get it all fitted. I'm using the chassis from a Cisco 2610 router that I no longer need from school, and the donor is a beater Non-TMSS Genesis that had a really hrd life (but still works because the Genesis is bulletproof). Front-loading cart slot (from donor machine, able to play Japanese carts of course) and all the hookups except power will be in the front. The Cisco chassis has a 40W power supply in it so I can use that and the fan that is also built onto the chassis. This is my first post on this anywhere. If anyone knows a quick source for parts, please let me know, I am not hunting them. Nathan
godslabrat #2 Posted April 7, 2009 I don't know where to get parts, but I'm really interested in this! Will you be making it 32X compatible as well as SegaCD compatible?
nathanallan #3 Posted April 7, 2009 Yes, it will be easy to use a 32X as well as a Power Base converter, though the PBC will be custom like the CD. I might even make a custom thing for the 32X if I can get one.
MN12BIRD #4 Posted April 7, 2009 OMG build the 32x AND Base converter into it lol!
nathanallan #5 Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) OMG build the 32x AND Base converter into it lol! The case is only about 2" tall, so not all would fit I did think about it, and those three things WILL go into another case just like it and be a separate expansion into itself. If I can get a spare PBC I think I can stuff it in the case now. Lots of dremelling, but I'm up to it! Being rack mounted, I'll now be able to use this board for the other Genesis mods I'd like to do-- including the one concerning the Z80. Very easy access. Also, it's a Cisco 2501 router casing, my mistake. And if anyone wants the mainboard for experimenting with, PM me. I'll never use it again and it works fine.
