Sea Wolf - The Next Mission

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

We're staying at the Wilderness Resort in the Wisconsin Dells and they've got a huge arcade here. A game that really caught my eye was Sea Wolf - The Next Mission. The game play is similar to the original in which you shoot torpedoes at a variety of ships moving across the screen (don't hit the hospital ship!). The ships shoot back at you and lay mines. There are also torpedo planes that attack you, and you have to shoot the torpedoes before they hit your sub. The graphics are awesome and the ending is really cool when your sub surfaces. Unfortunately, the game was set for ticket redemption so I had to keep pumping tokens into it.

I found a little info about the game here.

We were playing the sit-down model here.

Has anyone else played this?

No but it looks good.Sea Wolf The Next Mission is apparently a redemption game from Costal Amusements.When you said that it was like the original

I presume you mean the original Sea Wolf redemption game from Costal Amusements not the original 1976 Sea Wolf from Midway or its 1978 sequel Sea Wolf 2 ? I suppose this game is a sort of tribute to these machines.

I played this at ASI in Las Vegas recently and I did like it - I got a video of it too that I am going to have uploaded to Arcade Heroes soon as well. It's much better than what they had done with this earlier last year as they added levels, speech and more to the game and the price tag was much more reasonable too. If I had any money at all to purchase some new games, this would be on my consideration list.

I was thinking that this is really just a modernized version of Midway's '78 Sea Wolf II. It's done very well...

That would be cool if people could see the video of the game. I see there's nothing about the game on KLOV either. Good to see a new arcade game that doesn't involve golfing, bowling, or hunting!

That's a video I did of the game at last year's ASI show, the first version of the game which was fun but didn't have a lot of replay value to it after a while. The new version (which is why they call it The Next Mission) is a bit better since they added levels, different threats to face (such as mines) and voice to the game. They also have given this new one a much more reasonable price point. I do have a video of this new one (taken with a better quality camera) that will be uploaded soon to my channel.

BTW - there is a second submarine combat game that has come to arcades although I have had a very hard time coming across information on it since they company who has released the game didn't bring it to ASI. It's called Battle Stations and from what I have heard, it is much better than Sea Wolf: The Next Mission as you can even have two units linked. The strange thing is though, Smart Industries removed the game completely from their website and every time I have tried to contact them about it, they simply ignore me. It seems rather stupid to repress info about your own game but my distributor tells me that it should be arriving soon.

Here is one page about this one. As soon as I can get a video of this, I'm throwing it up on my youtube account.

@Byte Knight

I whole-heartedly agree - there are too many arcade games that are just the same - especially when it comes to racers (although I do admit that the new H2Overdrive is very cool and could be the best game this year - we'll see) so it's cool to see stuff like submarine battles. I would love to see how Sea Wolf and Battle Stations compare to each other.
