Blue Dragon

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've been playing Blue Dragon for several days now and I just have to say one thing.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!

I forgot how long it takes to get anywhere in a turn based battle RPG.

The story is OK but nothing special so far, the characters are forgettable, and the we won the battle celebration animations you can't skip have worn very thin.

The battle mechanics are actually pretty decent for this type of game but you are still stuck with random crap battles everywhere to level up for then next boss.

For the $5 I paid it's not bad and if you like this type of genera you may really like it but it's no Final Fantasy as far as plot.

"Can you find xxxxxx for me?"

"Sure!"

battle... battle... battle...

"Here you go!"

"Thanks!"

And I wasted how long for that?

And having to level up. Fight a semi-boss character and get tromped on. Level up just a little and he only lasts 6 hits.

If you can't stand some of the things I've mentioned you probably won't like it.

The thing is... on a FPS I could have covered this much territory in a few hours. There has to be a better way to keep the game moving.

The story itself isn't bad... just kinda thin.

And I'm not sure what the target audience is. The story is simple enough to be pre-teen but the language clearly isn't.

I'd say it's kinda average but if you like this sort of game it's worth a play.

For $5 it's a steal. I like the fact you can group monsters and fight em (or sometimes they fight each other!) but yeah not my favorite RPG of all time by any means. I thought it was well done, but pretty forgettable.

I actually like it quite a bit. It has an old school feel to it...kinda like a SNES era RPG with prettier graphics. I'm still playing it 60 hours in....the last dungeon.

Finally done. 71 hours. Not a bad game at all for under $20...now on to another RPG...not sure which one...

I haven't finished yet. Taking a break from it. I'm up against several boss type characters and need to level up so the characters actually last more than 3 hits.

Funny how you run around killing everything no problem and then <whap><whap><whap>Defeated... repeat.

Nope...but I just grabbed it and Oblivion.

You have in your hand two of my favorite RPG games on the 360.

Say goodbye to everyone for awhile.

I've barely started both of them. So far I like Lost Odyssey better, simply because I prefer 3rd person games to first person games (just a personal pereference...I play them both). Plus, LO seems to be more of a "traditional" rpg with turn based combat etc.

I'm sure I'll play them both though. The problem is the giant backlog of games that I have right now. I'm in the middle of like 6 games, and have another 6 sitting on the shelf waiting. I really have no business starting another RPG...but its my favorite genre so...:)

I just want to know why there's so many freakin' treasure chests. And why there's gold and experience points under literally every rock in the whole game. And when you backtrack there's new useless crap under all the rocks you checked last time through. I get the feeling Sakaguchi is trying to distract me from having to play the actual game.

I think that once you get into Oblivion, you'll find that it's pretty hard to put down. I'd say there was about a 1 to 1 1/2 month period where all I did with a large portion of my spare time was to play Oblivion - once I get my 360 back, I'm going to pick it up again! :) I'd say it was pretty much the only game I played until I made a little progress into the Shivering Isles expansion (which I'm anxious to pick back up again after not having a 360 for a couple weeks :) )

Oblivion can be played 3rd person. Just press down on the right analog stick, I believe.

Really? That's good to know.

I'm going to get into Oblivion just as soon as I finish FF12 on the ps2.

LOL I was the opposite. I couldn't stand 3rd person on Oblivion. Not sure why.

I have infinite undiscovery to play. I started to try and play it but could not get ito it. Blue Dragon was excellent. A three disc game that was actually playable that is different. Having siad tat you could paly the entire game and only score 25 gamer points.

Infinite Undiscovery takes a bit to get into. It's not the best RPG out there, but it wasn't bad. There's a twist towards the end which will surprise you.

I was the same way. I made it a good bit into the game but for some reason it failed to captivate me. I still plan on going back and finishing it up, but I'm in no hurry. If you haven't yet, give Lost Odyssey a try. It's a much better RPG.

I got stuck on the end of disk 1 and have not played it for sometime. That was just before I got fallout which is pretty much all i have played for the last 9 months

Perhaps the title of the thread should be changed to 'Anything but Blue Dragon' at this point.

I had a chance to buy Blue Dragon new from Amazon for $10 a little while ago but after reading some reviews, reading posts here, and seeing some video's of the game in action, I decided to pass on the game even at the $10 price point.

It's a classic turn based JRPG...so if you don't like those...steer clear. If you love them (like me) then its a good game to pick up, especially for less than $20.
