Scot from S.C. #1 Posted September 23, 2002 I posted this question earlier in a different forum, but I figured that I might have better success here. Here is my question: "I can think of a few games where you can be the bad guy. Halloween and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre are two I can think of for the 2600, and Dracula for the Intellivision. Okay, what other games are out there where you can actually be the bad guy? I think that programmers should make more like that, especially a good vampire game (Imagic's version is so limited.)" Thanks in advance.
Turnspike #2 Posted September 23, 2002 Are the Dukes of Hazzard considered bad guys? I mean, they are running from the sheriff, but the sheriff is Rosco. <( YEEEEEE(yeee)-Haw!)
DuckandCover #3 Posted September 23, 2002 Hmmm...the only 2600 title that I can think of offhand is G.I. Joe. In two player mode you can be the Cobra and lay waste to your buddy's troopers. I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of them right at the moment... Oddly, my favorite "bad guy" game was Bruce Lee, which I played on the C-64. In that one, you could play the Green Yamo (which I always did) and do your best to impede your friend's progress on the quest. Laying the smackdown on Bruce was always a blast! Turnspike #4 Posted September 23, 2002 Some others I can think of are: Bank Heist Rampage Tax Avoiders ...and for the record, I always thought they should have made a Pac-Man game where you were a ghost, or were able to actively select the any of the four ghosts and control them while the game was running. Chris++ #5 Posted September 23, 2002 But then, how do we know that Pac-Man isn't the bad guy? Maybe the ghosts live in the maze, and the yellow little thief is stealing all of their food. Then, of course, he gets his girlfriend and their bastard child into the act. The poor ghosts don't stand a chance! Even their fruits are bouncing all over like they're in need of an exorcist or something! CF
Scot from S.C. #6 Posted September 23, 2002 Wow, I can't believe that I forgot Rampage!! I actually played that the other day on my 2600. Duh!! I guess back in the day major labels didn't want their programmers sending "the wrong message" to kids. Today it is much more common to see games where you can be the bad guy. I just wish someone would come up with a great one involving vampires, sort of like Imagic's Dracula that I mentioned earlier. I think that a game like that could really be great. Keep them coming in folks. I would love to hear your take on it, either gamewise or the motive behind the lack of such games.

The day Ghosts have property rights, is the day dead people can vote in America. Inky #8 Posted September 23, 2002 Technically in any 2 player simultaneous game someone can play the 'Bad Guy', it's just not you.
StanJr #9 Posted September 23, 2002 In Oink! you can be the Wolf
Chris++ #10 Posted September 23, 2002 Turn on the game, don't eat a single video wafer, and see if they still don't clobber you. Ahh, yes yes yes yes. I hadn't thought of that. Excellent point. CF
The Night Phantom #11 Posted September 23, 2002 But then, how do we know that Pac-Man isn't the bad guy? Maybe the ghosts live in the maze, and the yellow little thief is stealing all of their food. Then, of course, he gets his girlfriend and their bastard child into the act. Not a bastard in the literal sense: Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man were married in the Mr. and Mrs. Pac-Man pinball game. The Night Phantom #12 Posted September 23, 2002 I can think of a few games where you can be the bad guy. Halloween In Halloween, you play the heroine, a babysitter beset by a homicidal bad guy. In Star Voyager, game 2 allows the right-hand player to control the enemy ships. But as Inky points out, it’s a matter of perspective.
Turnspike #13 Posted September 23, 2002 In Star Voyager, game 2 allows the right-hand player to control the enemy ships. But as Inky points out, it’s a matter of perspective. I was just thinking of another game where the enemy ships could be controlled by the right-hand player, that I remember playing as a kid. I wasn't thinking of Star Voyager either, but I can't remember what it was. It wasn't as if the enemy was in TOTAL control of that player, but they were just pursuaded a bit by them. It was either a 2600 or Nintendo game.
Ze_ro #14 Posted September 24, 2002 Not for the 2600, but in 5200 Kaboom!, you can be the Mad Bomber... too bad they didn't include that in the 2600 version I'm not sure what's going on in Squeeze Box, but your character is wearing prison stripes... And I don't imagine either character in Outlaw is a model citizen. Of course, there's a lot of games like Turmoil and Amidar where you can't tell what's going on anyways, so for all you know, you could be a bad guy... --Zero
Scot from S.C. #15 Posted September 24, 2002 Thanks for the save, Night Phantom. Since I don't have either of the Wizard games YET, I made the mistake that you got to be Michael Myers in the Halloween game. I guess I assumed that since you got to be Leatherface in the other game, you could be Myers in the other one. Maybe somebody out there would like to hack Halloween and make it that way instead.... The Night Phantom #16 Posted September 24, 2002 I'm not sure what's going on in Squeeze Box, but your character is wearing prison stripes... Hmmm...that reminds me: in Lock ’n’ Chase, you play a museum robber. (Perhaps Squeeze Box is the sequel!) Thanks for the save, Night Phantom. Or maybe just switch the villain and heroine graphics to make Babysitter’s Revenge!
ubersaurus #17 Posted September 24, 2002 Fun Fact-in Lock'n Chase, you play everyone's favorite japanese cartoon thief, Lupin III.
a light in the black #18 Posted September 24, 2002 IN U.S. GAMES'S M.A.D. YOU CAN PLAY THE ATTACKING PLANES.

I haven't seen that cartoon in years, but I just remembered that the ghosts worked for some evil guy.
Vic George 2K3 #20 Posted September 24, 2002 Turnspike: "Are the Dukes of Hazzard considered bad guys? I mean, they are running from the sheriff, but the sheriff is Rosco." More like renegade heroes (good guys), while the Sheriff and Boss Hogg are corrupt law officials (bad guys).
