Turbo Grafx 16 - How much to pay

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for a new classic system and I was curious if I could get some opinions on a decent price for a TG16. Let's assume this is the base system in good working order with all the necessary parts to start playing. I've been scouting eBay but I wanted to be sure I wasn't getting ripped off.

Thanks

I have to agree with with Ghost Soldier. For a TG16 starter, I'd pay up to $50.

Do bear in mind that you could also get a Japanese system too... LOTS of games for it. However, they won't play each other region's games (cards) without modding. I think the Duo has no region lock on the CD portion.

What do you mean? I could purchase a new TG16 or that I could locate a Japanese TG16 on eBay for example? Either way it seems eBay is a little pricey, any thoughts on locating a reasonable deal?

I paid $10 for mine and it came with the booster, turbo tap, turbo stick, a regular pad and all the hookups but it was a "right place at the right time" kind of thing.

For a Turbo-16 you are looking at about $50 to $60 with all the hook-ups and such now i always recommend going the import route with this and get a PC Engine Duo-R.

With the Duo-R you are going to get a ton more games than the US T-16 plus with the Duo-R you have the built-in CD unit and can play anything except Arcade CD which you will have to buy a Arcade Card to play any of those games.

Yes, the Japanese PC Engine Duo is well worth the extra cost. But if that's out of your price range then just keep monitoring Ebay for good deals on a TG16 lot. Sometimes really good ones slip under the radar and go for very little money.

Just wanted to pop in here and say that I've got a PC Engine to Turbo Grafx converter available on the Chuckwagon if anyone is interested.

I got my TG16 w/ 3 games in a trade for a Coleco w/ 2 games. As for PC Engine, I've found that this store seems to be reasonable and reliable:

I bought my Famicom through them and it wasn't a bad experience. Keep in mind that the store is actually located in Japan, so shipping costs should be considered when ordering.
