Arjak #1 Posted April 15, 2009 So I recently ordered a mint/sealed copy of Pitfall! and when I finally opened it today, I noticed that the label on the cart was perfect! No plaque! Which made me wonder, how common is it for an Activision cart label to go bad? If you have any info at all on Actiplaque, please share it here, and maybe we can find out why some carts do this, and others don't! (As far as I know, not all Activision carts have rotting labels, please correct me if I'm wrong.)
+Psionic #2 Posted April 15, 2009 It's very common. This has been discussed many, many times in the past. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?a...e=%2Bactiplaque
Wickeycolumbus #3 Posted April 15, 2009 I don't think I own an Activision cartridge with out it Also, it seems to be a common problem with Atari Children's label carts. I think the problem is that most of those types of carts are colored, while the picture label Atari carts we know and love are black, so we don't notice it as much. Correct me if I am wrong but is this is slightly less of a problem for Blue Label Activisions?

My Cosmic Commuter has a pretty bad case of it and so does my Sorcerer's Apprentice
Godzilla #6 Posted April 15, 2009 In cart rarity terms, I'd say it's as common as asteroids, pac man, space invaders, et and frogger.
shadow460 #7 Posted April 15, 2009 It's going to happen to certain companies' carts, period. It's just a matter of time. You can delay the onset of it by keeping the carts stored well in a dark place. To prevent it, though, you have to strip the glue from the cart and label. Stripping the cart is not a problem, but stripping the label might be. Once that's done, simply re glue them with clear drying glue stick glue and you are set. Godzilla #9 Posted April 15, 2009 i've had gluesticked labels peel off pretty quickly (over time,) when trying that method...

Lord Thag #11 Posted April 16, 2009 How common are rocks?
pinball22 #12 Posted April 16, 2009 It's as common as the combination of Activision carts and light. When they're together, it's there, like magic.
shadow460 #13 Posted April 16, 2009 i've had gluesticked labels peel off pretty quickly (over time,) when trying that method... Ya know, I've had some glue stick come off pretty quick, too. That purple Elmer's seems to be the best. I tried some "permanent" Avery glue stick the other day, though, and it fell off faster than I could put it on. Good thing the Elmer's dries clear, otherwise it would only be suitable for Grand Prix, Dragster, and Crackpots.
Cassidy Nolen #14 Posted April 17, 2009 Does anyone here know a paper conservator? You know, the kind the Antique Roadshow always references for the really expensive prints and art? I wonder if they could suggest a solution that would either release the adhesive or stop the acid damage from the original glue. Its only 25 years now, wonder what they will look like in another 25....better yet I don't want to know. I do know that my boxed games have much less than the ones that are exposed to the air (loose copies). Also know that the ones I have Actiplaque on now didn't about 15 years ago (dug through my Atari games back in the mid 90's at Mom's house...pre fire).
