STICH666 #1 Posted April 15, 2009 This is what I'm talking about. http://www.segagagadomain.com/hardware-mega/xmd-3.htm There's just nothing on ebay.
darthkur #2 Posted April 15, 2009 I never knew that existed. It'd be nice to have.
Reaperman #3 Posted April 15, 2009 well you probably won't find it on ebay.com--try a foreign ebay. Or set up a search to have you notified when one comes up. in any case it may be easier to make your own, or get the megadrive scart cable (easier to find) and pull your rgb from that. Blur2040 #4 Posted April 16, 2009 You are aware, yes, that that thing will only benefit you if you have a 15kHz analog RGB monitor, right? You know, like an arcade monitor or the elusive US TVs that has a Scart Connector? (Yes, they do exist). And as for where...you can find one...Japan and...as it's from Micomsoft, expect it to cost a pretty penny. Their stuff is highly regarded. Yahoo auctions japan or asking someone who lives there would be the best bet.
+remowilliams #5 Posted April 16, 2009 If you want to make use of the RGB output, get a SCART cable and a SCART/component converter. Of course you need a TV that has component inputs, but there are quite a few of those.

CGQuarterly #7 Posted April 16, 2009 You can just mod your Genesis for s-video. You don't need to buy some dopey box. Chris
godslabrat #8 Posted April 16, 2009 There are some other converters besides the XMD-3. Keep your options open.
STICH666 #9 Posted April 16, 2009 It's not a converter. It takes the RGB signal directly from the Genesis.
Blur2040 #10 Posted April 16, 2009 It takes the RGB signal directly from the Genesis. ...and converts it into S-video.
Reaperman #11 Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) It's not a converter. It takes the RGB signal directly from the Genesis. edit: looks like blur beat me to it a bit it's an s-video converter that takes rgb and converts it to s-video. Though it says otherwise in the link you supplied, s-video and RGB don't really have a lot in common. That's assuming it doesn't make s-video from composite, which would make it a piece of crap (doubtful). now it doesn't have to convert video to provide rgb out for scart, because it does pull that right from the system, but for s-video it is a converter. It seems like a huge waste to use this just for s-video. Didn't some of the more exotic non-sega hardware come with an s-video plug right on the back? I wouldn't know, I just have all the sega ones. The other alternatives are modding a system (difficulty varies based on version), or locating sega's mythical s-video cable--I've never seen one, but so many rumors... I don't think you're going to be able to get a genesis scart cable and use a standard scart to s-video adapter (euro guys correct me if I'm wrong) because the device will assume svideo luma/chroma is flowing through the scart cable already, which I don't think it will be since the system plug doesn't seem to output luma/chroma. link. warmachine #12 Posted April 16, 2009 If you don't mind doing a bit of wiring, you can try one of these out. http://www.jrok.com/hardware/RGB.html These are used in superguns to convert the 15khz rgb video output from arcade game boards into composite and s-video. There is also a version that will convert the rgb signal into component video as well. It does the same thing as the xmd-3 converter.
