Things to do with an 850 Interface

Recommended Posts

I recently put a fully functional windows computer into a 850 case, to use as a SIO2PC/APE platform. It works really well. Here's some pics. The insides are a Nano-itx board ( http://www.logicsupply.com/products/px10000g ), a sio2pc adapter, a wireless USB stick, a 40GB 2.5 inch HD, and a small DC-to-DC ATX style power unit, plus cabling between the board and the external ports. I'm no hardware engineer so its kind of just all crammed in there and hot glued, but it works well. Used with the magnavox HD LCD, I get a very crisp SVideo picture, as well as PIP if I want to. I do development with CC65, so I use a Visual Studio C++ Express development environment hooked to CC65 build scripts, and I build right to the drive that APE has mirrored over to the Atari. Makes for a nice dev cycle.

No, it was broken. I did not commit sacriledge by destroying a working piece of Atari gear.

So, I guess the "Does it blend?" guy wouldn't be popular around here? :ponder:

Best looking PC yet! Nice idea. Does your XE double as the PC keyboard?

Thanks :)

Clauseb : No, although I know it can be done. There's a thread or two around here about that subject I think.

Jacobus : It doesn't get very warm at all. The fan is silent, its embedded in the board heat sink.
