fiddlepaddle #2 Posted April 20, 2009 Ahhh, the good old days... I remember back when I only had 45 boxes of game-related stuff. The moves were fast and simple; that's only 9 trips with a hand truck, and everything still fits in one room, maybe even one (large) closet. Enjoy it while you still can. potatohead #4 Posted April 20, 2009 Just wait until you have to scale DOWN! Man, oh man. It's ugly. That happened to us, because of a health care deal. Lost the larger house. No worries there, everybody is gonna be fine, but I had to pick and choose and some stuff got stolen! (Just learned they didn't get my original SuperCharger and Stella CD. Found that recently in a clothing box! Sweet!) Ditched the SGI's. Kept all the Atari stuff that didn't get stolen, and a few other game related goodies. Arrived at the new place full! So, it's a storage in the near future as I get back those things that matter. Was hard for me, but really hard for the kids. They have so much stuff!! And being middle schoolers and high schoolers, they want ALL of it. Ugh!! Good that you can keep it all. 45 BOXES!!! Holy crap! I thought I was bad at maybe 20 at my peak. Have a good time re-sorting it all out.
shadow460 #5 Posted April 20, 2009 ...don't remind me of how much fun it's NOT going to be...moving all of this stuff...
potatohead #6 Posted April 20, 2009 Phone a friend. ALL THE FRIENDS. Buy beer, pizza and tell stories about the stuff as it goes. That's the best way I've ever come up with to move. When it's all done, have one heck of an open house for the friends you can still invite (distance, etc...) and meet the new neighbors. Laugh. Seriously, just laugh. pinball22 #8 Posted April 20, 2009 Ok, this is lacking important information... how big are the boxes?
DaytonaUSA #9 Posted April 20, 2009 I'm moving into my new home soon as well, and I'm very nervous about packing up my gear. I'm starting to realize that the proportions are about 1/10th clothes, 3/10ths furniture, 6/10ths electronics/gaming related gear.
Rev #10 Posted April 20, 2009 Ok, this is lacking important information... how big are the boxes? ahhh...yes.i should of mentioned this.they are your standard liquor store boxes along with about 5 24'' x 18'' boxes.when i get unpacked i am sorting all this out and listing a bunch CTCW
Almost Rice #11 Posted April 20, 2009 I just finished moving my wife and I had to go around 10 trips to Austin and back. This past weekend was the last trip. I am officially tired. My two conclusions are my wife keeps too much crap and I will NEVER live in a 2 story home. I only had to move her from her 2nd story apartment and that nearly killed me. Skylark68 #12 Posted April 20, 2009 I hear you loud and clear. My wife and I just moved out a 2nd floor apartment last month, and I was glad we bought a 1 story house. My wife has so much junk it's not even funny. I think it was easy a 5 to 1 ratio of her stuff vs. my stuff, the majority being clothes. I have a small collection compared to a lot of the people on this site that I have yet to move. It's sitting in off site storage right now. I have about 10 boxes of game related stuff (not counting the boxed systems). This includes everything from Odyssey 2 to VCS to Turbografx 16/Super NES. I don't have anything newer than that in there (my totally unplayed PS2 gathers dust in my entertainment center at home). The boxes are around bulk paper box size. I'm looking forward to finally being able to hook some of it back up. I'll probably be sorting through the collection though and downsizing as well. I finally decided I really don't need 1 of each version of the VCS/2600. I'll probably keep my 6 switch Sears to play on and keep the Heavy Sixer to look at fondly. shadow460 #13 Posted April 21, 2009 Seems just about every time I have moved I've moved into or out of a second story dwelling.
Ian Primus #14 Posted April 21, 2009 Ugh, tell me about it. I have been accumulating for years. Actually, the console gaming stuff takes up the LEAST space of all the things I own. I also collect old computers. And yes, this means large iron. I've got single computers that weigh over 600 pounds. And hard drives that take two people to move. Not to mention arcade machines - those are easy, because they're so light in comparison. You can move those around with a hand truck, no problem. -Ian

fiddlepaddle #16 Posted April 25, 2009 Actually, moving is kind of fun, at least if you allocate enough time. Gives me a chance to go through everything, to hold and remember things I forgot about, and reorganize my game station in a different configuration. Also, getting all the little boxes to fit efficiently into bigger ones lets me put my hard-earned Tetris skills to good use.
xg4bx #17 Posted April 25, 2009 i just moved and what slayed me was the amount of books i have. boxes and boxes full of books that will probably never get read and thats after donating a large chunk to a library sale.
Lord Thag #18 Posted April 25, 2009 You think that's bad, my buddy swlovinist had like 150 boxes to move.... It was crazy! (and very heavy)
