You know, I thought the AVGN review was funny, that was until I read this thread.

 

Odyssey is a very unique and enjoyable gaming experience; one no like any other. This is the first time that a home game system was introduced into the market, and it sold hundreds of thousands of units in the US and abroad.

 

It is certainly not "lame," " beyond primitive to actually try to play," it does nor "suck." I find a lot of the comments in this thread are rather ignorant and uninformed.

 

AVGN isn't going for historically accurate portrayal, he's going for laughs. He's an entertainer, and his videos are entertaining. But to take his video an call the contents video game history is to take the movie 300 and believe that it's a historically accurate representation of the Persian Wars, (like so many ignorant people do).

 

Do some of the Odyssey games suck? Hell yes. States, Simon Says... who would want to play a thing like that? Football is perhaps the most ridiculous and hilarious mess in game designing history, requiring the changing like four Gamecards. That's what happens when an advertising firm designs games for a a concept (home game console) that never existed before. But it's good for a laugh.

 

However, a lot of it really is great. It has Tennis, the precursor to Pong. Which plays a lot like Pong, except you can put English on the ball and move anywhere in the court. No, it doesn't keep score, but that's because it doesn't have a computer. That doesn't come close to stopping it from being fun. In fact, several other games on the Odyssey were also fun.

 

There's a blog on this very site called "Chronogamer." It doesn't have a shit pickle in it, bu it's one of the few sources of Odyssey reviews that contain any depth. I recommend reading it to anyone who is interested in Odyssey.

Saw this a while back. The best part was when he busted out the shotgun at the end. "heel, game companies would NEVER get away with this today" (and blows a hole in the TV, that's just awesome)

 

It's not very informative, beyond showing the sheer ammount of shit there is for the console. And one thing he is definately right about, just fucking around with the thing could be loads more fun than most of the games could be.

 

If you don't believe me, find one complete, and play it, that's all it'll take:p

I saw that already a longtime ago...it was nice to see how the first home console looked. My favorite part was when he played Haunted House,that game actually looks kinda cool.

 

His newest episode is about the Wayne's World NES games but I think my favorite AVGN of this year would have to be the Super Pitfall one. One major turnoff about his show is that he relies way too much on poo jokes and bathroom humor to the point where it is'nt even funny but just gross. I seriously can't watch his show while eating dinner lol. Other than that I always look forward to his new episodes.

Your entitled to your opinion as are we. Because we disagree with your assessment doesn't mean we are "ignorant." Just look at the video. The odyssey 1 does "suck hard" in my opinion because it doesn't even have graphics but rediculous TV overlays(that never fit right), no scoring, no color, the player- a simple rectangle that can go all over the screen including out of a games' play areas - there's no programming/computer, controllers are uncomfortable, etc.

 

The Odyssey 2 was much much better and is probably the only Odyssey to own if your not just a system collector but a player too.

Yes, I have actually played the Odyssey 1 & 2 and I find the Odyssey 1 not to be a good console(for me). If you love it and consider it playable on a daily basis - then, more power to ya, Rev.

The Nerd makes most early games/systems out to be much worse than they really are - He negatively dramatises them(many with some kind of vulgarity) to get more people to watch his vidz. All his vidz are like a joke, and any serious review part is only his biased opinion.
