cimerians #2 Posted April 22, 2009 Wow, thanks for the info. Does it have any bad long term effect? Sounds dumb I know but some chemicals may harm metal in the long run I dont know. I will definitely look for this though.
STICH666 #3 Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) No side effects what so ever. It's jewelry cleaner so it's designed to get rid of corrosion on Gold, Silver, Copper and Nickle. Just don't get it on the label or any polished plastic surface since it does have some alcohol in it. Edited April 22, 2009 by STICH666
pinball22 #4 Posted April 22, 2009 Wow, what did you let that Kirby cart eat? A rust monster?
STICH666 #5 Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) LOL no it was in my cousin's flooded basement. You should see the mold residue on the top of the cart. Edited April 22, 2009 by STICH666
iwan-iwanowitsch-goratschin #6 Posted April 22, 2009 LOL no it was in my cousin's flooded basement. You should see the mold residue on the top of the cart. And it works again?!!
Chickybaby #7 Posted April 22, 2009 I worked in Jewelry. You can buy that cleaner at Walmart if you really want to use it and I am sure many other places since it's the most common. BTW, It's meant for solid gold and platinum only, not anything plated or coated and is also fragranced as well as containing ingredients that will "fill in scratches over time". They have other formulas for delicate, pearl, and silver. I also will tell you that their cleaners can strip the specially polished or rhodium finished gold and silver. While it can still tarnish over time, many times sterling silver has a special anti-tarnish coating and their silver cleaner will strip it. The gold cleaner also had a leaky jar and stripped the paint off the inside of my bathroom cabinet in a couple spots. I got the same results with the cleaner as I did with liquid dish soap and a brush. While it does work for jewelry, I sure as heck wouldn't use that on my carts because I wouldn't trust it's long term affects. A polishing cloth meant for metals might be safer but again it's up to the individuals. Thankfully on the other hand, I do have neighbors I can trust who are letting me use their wi-fi since my internet bit the dust.

SRGilbert #9 Posted April 23, 2009 (edited) I'd make sure to give it a good swabbing with 99% alcohol after to get rid of any residue. I can't imagine you would want it to build up on your consoles connector. I've used Dremel brand metal polish which I have to think is a little more aggresive than jewelry cleaner and it does a good job as a last resort on carts that just wont load any other way. Dremel makes a battery powered low RPM rotory tool (mine was meant to clean golf clubs!) that works perfect for this. As a final touch, I've been finishing them off with a light coating of Deoxit.
