Weird HD hangups

Recommended Posts

I've been playing Mass Effect on my HDTV with component now, and have noticed something odd. Sometimes an image will start out looking standard def and will then suddenly "clean-up." Is this common on the 360? In Mass Effect specifically, maybe?

For example, last night I was looking at a weird alien device of some kind and it looked just like it did on my standard TV. Then the game kind of snapped it into high def and it looked 1000 times better. This has been happening a fair bit.

Yeah I think it's just the game, it just takes a seconds to load everything in an area maybe?

It is just the way Mass Effect loads textures on-the-fly. It is nothing wrong with your setup or an SD vs. HD thing. In my opinion it is a feature. It means less time staring at load screens and more textures in-game. Enjoy Mass Effect!

Enjoy Mass Effect!

Yeah, I'm doing that. The problem is that I may not have time to enjoy anything else this generation. I just used my codex for the first time today, having ignored it's gathering of information until now, and I could easily spend a week just learning about stuff in this game. It's incredible.

Quick question to any fans, when can I start doing the side missions I'm picking up from the computer terminals? The ship is docked and I can't board her yet. Do I eventually get free reign?

Yup, late texture loading. Seen that happen in a number of games, both console and pc. Sometimes leads to really odd looking stuff. :D

Yes, you'll get to fly from place to place on your own.

And yes, Mass Effect is amazing.

Yeah, I think it's like some games are low rez untill you get closer to objects and then tehy jump to higher rez, higher texture, higher poly count, or some combination. It's just how the games are written.
