An update on the uncleanable cartridge

Recommended Posts

I've tried continually turning off the power and retrying it, to no avail. Broncoeman said something about bit rot...could this be it?

I also wanted to say that the man I purchased the cartridge from has refunded my money, and doesn't require my returning the game, which is very nice. Everything worked out.

Meanwhile, I'm going to try different methods of cleaning, perhaps a light abrasive method, perhaps I'll open the cartridge, I dunno. I can't give up yet :). Thanks everyone who offered advice!

I not sure what advice everyone has given you so far but if it's not too rare a game then you should open it up. I had a stubborn Pitfall cart that worked only after I opened it up, cleaned it and then plugged it in without its case, I guess it just need to make better contact.

good luck.

The game is Fast Food, something I really wanted to play :(. This may sound dumb, but how do you go about opening it? I mean, without destroying it? There are no screws evident (well as far as I can tell) on this cart. When you get inside, what parts do you NOT clean? If its shot anyway, I guess I have nothing to lose by cracking the case.

I tried another swab and alcohol cleaning today and got no results. It may very well be like someone suggested, a chip gone bad.

there should be a screw hole under the label

it will be in the center mostly and closer to the end label

when you find it take a knife/razor and make 2 cuts in a X form over the screw, peel back the 4 little flaps carefully and unscrew the cart , this way you can put the flaps back over the screw and it will look better then just ripping the label
