Dragonstomper- what does the lantern do?

While I can't confirm this, I would assume it would do the same thing as the flash spell. What happens when you try and use it in the Dragon's Cave?

My experience is that the lantern really doesn't do anything useful to win the game. That's about the only thing I do not buy in the village.

i thought u could not see in to the cave with out a latern then again its been 20 years since i played

I have played DS exhaustively, (you can see my COMPLETE strategy guide over at atarinvader.com http://www.atarinvader.com/modules.php?nam...rticle&artid=55), and I can find NO use for the lantern. I believe it was intended to light the traps in the Dragon's Cave, but it does nothing when you attempt to use it in the village or in the Cave.

 

If anyone does discover a use or purpose, PLEASE let me know!

No, not at all.

First, I don't know how to play that game (which I must to understand the code) and second, the code is huge (25344 bytes) compared to those games I have disassembled yet (4096/8192 bytes).

Okay, this is going on memories from a LONG time ago, but doesn't it make the pits (as opposed to traps) visible in the Cave?

are you talking about the pit you drop through to get to the Dragon? I thought that was always visible?

 

I have tried to "use" the Latern on every possible screen in every possible situation with no success. Just to be sure, I'll play it again tonight and try once more.

The lantern does nothing. All it does is deplete your gold when you buy it.

All I get is the message that says the Lantern does nothing. I've tried it on every possible screen. It simply does nothing.

I figure its purpose was either overlooked (never programmed) or there's some bug in the code that doesn't allow it to work.
