Here is what you should of done. "Hmm, $8.00? Well that's a little out of my price range. Tell you what, if no one is willing to pay that amount for it, I will gladly offer $5 for it." After about 3 months or so she will eventually realize that she has a selling dud on her hands and will give it to you for that price.

Nah she was rude plus selling overpriced games! No way I could have been that nice to her.

I don't see the point in not being nice to her in this situation. Fact is you are probably the only person in your town that actually desires this game. We collectors are a rare breed. Why be mean when the market will teach her more of a lesson than you could ever teach her.

It wasn't in my town it was a town an hour or so west right off I-95 with lots of flea markets and outlet shopping. Anyway I would have been nice but she was rude so ya get what you give.

Honestly, if it were me and I didn't already have the game, I'd have paid the $8 right there. If it's worth $5 and you pay that on ebay, even first class shipping in a bubble envelope with the words "BREAK ME" stamped on both sides is going to run the price up to at least $7.

Was it the handle cart or the square version? I've got a handle cart that's all jacked up and could use a replacement.

No handle. I'm kinda shocked by the replies. I was thinking most would feel the same as I do.

I have found that when someone has something that I want and are ignorant being rude back does nothing but lower myself to their level. Maybe if you had tried being nice you could have gotten further. Just because you didn't get what you want you called her stupid? Next time if they are so common buy it on Ebay and save yourself the embarassment.

I have also learned that you get what you give in life and should always treat people the way you would want to be treated.

My point is that makes you no better then her especially if you were the one doing the name calling. I would have been so mortified if I had been your wife and probably apologised to her.

My other point was that in being rude back to her if you go by the rules of karma you'll get more people being rude to you then being nice.

I think you overreacted a bit slamming the cart down. $8 bucks is way overpriced, but she's just an asstard trying to make a buck. That game could have just as easily been Quadrun, or Asteroids for $8 bucks, and she would have been just as incorrectly pricing that game. Most flea market sellers are clueless. Just walk away and laugh.

I didn't call her stupid as much as just said stupid shook my head and slammed the game down. But I'm telling you she was way rude her tone was just hateful.

Sorry man, but it sounds like you might have been the first one to be rude with your "that's too high!" comment to her. For what it's worth, DP's guide has it at $8, so maybe that's where it came from. A quick ebay search shows an average of around $7.50 shipped.

My opinion regarding prices is like this: You can buy games one of two ways, either a big lot of them for around a buck a piece and hoping you get some you need, or individually at flea markets or worse, vintage game stores where you will almost always pay top doller.

She shouldn't have been rude either, but I'm sure it gets pretty old to be haggling with customers all day long.

Just got it for $4.75 shipped. And thanks Gilbert for telling me how to buy games. Been doing this for 8 years now and I've never seen a 2600 game selling for over $5.00 at a flea market. And as far as me being rude first... when I walked up to her booth I stood there for about 2 minutes before she walked over to me she was to busy laughing and talking to a friend on her cell to make a sale. But hell maybe I did overreact.

Psst. You shouldn't have slammed an Atari 2600 game down. I wouldn't want to scratch or damage it.

Ah, no surprise, some of these flea market types are total idiots. You get the occasional nice seller who's willing to bend a bit, but some are too stubborn. I guess it's because they know someone will buy it at some point. Then again, usually not. I remember this one guy at a local fleal market who always had a bunch of NES game, mostly commons, all sun damaged because he would let them sit out. He had a 'rare' Black Bass that he always tried to sell for $50 loose with nothing and a slightly peeled label.

All this over a few bucks? Really? If it was something I had been looking for, I think the $3 dollars would've been worth the instant gratification of taking it right home and playing it instead of waiting for it to ship. But hooray for you, you ended up paying what you wanted to pay.

Yeah, when flea marketers or whoever give me a crazy high price, or even just a sort-of high price like this one, I just nod, put it down and walk away without saying anything at all. Sometimes they'll say "well, make me an offer" other times they let me walk away, whatever. Unless it's something super-rare, who cares? Some lady wanted $15 for a Trick Shot one time before I had it. Okay. Nod. Set down. Walk away. Who cares. Not worth making a scene over whether they're rude or not. That's their problem, don't make it yours.

i see your point tc, but id at least have offered 6 or 7. its all well and good that its $5 on ebay....this isn't ebay. sometimes youve just gotta bite the bullet and factor in the sheer convenience of it. yea its $3 more, but its right in front of you.

We've all had run ins with idiots, I managed two good one in one day a few weeks ago.

Was out of town and hit a few game stores. At one, they had a big dump bin full of loose random carts for just about every system you could name. None of them were priced of course. I asked how much the games were, and the girl says, "I think they are $1.99, but I'm not sure, nobody has asked about Atari games in forever." So I start picking through them, looking for ones I needed. Can't remember what I found now, I know one was Jedi Arena and at least three more that I remember were like R3-R5's. As I'm looking another girl working there speaks up and says, "Oh, those went up, they are $5 each now." Now, I really could have been a dick, but it wasn't worth it. I mean, the girl just got done telling me that NO ONE ever buys Atari games or even asks about them, and they had been sitting there for possibly YEARS, so let's raise the prices, yeah that makes sense. On the way out, I saw a boxed copy of Star Raiders with a $500 price tag on it! Good luck with that!

Another store, had a decent selection of games for all the retro systems. They even had a Supercharger and 6 games for $50, which isn't that bad I guess. I tried to talk her down, but she told me they looked on (wait for it) Ebay and they know it's worth $50. Fine, whatever. I then proceeded to buy a loose copy of Pengo for $3.99, not bad. She's ringing me up and say, "That's the most expensive Atari game I think I've sold, usually they are like a buck each." Then she says "Some games are really valuable, if you can find a sealed copy of E.T., that's worth a lot of money because Atari had them all destroyed." :rolling: Too bad I was out of town, I would have gone home and brought back the sealed copy of E.T. that an AA member threw in as a bonus when I bought some 7800 games from them!

I've had the same experience with pawn shop people. Went to one in Niles, OH and the guy had Atari carts for $1 to $2 a piece on a shelf. I bought a few I really wanted but didn't have the cash to get some others I wanted as well, only had $10 on me. I figured they'd been there awhile, since I had to blow off the dust on them, and weren't going anywhere. So I thiought that the next time I got paid I'll go back to get the others. When I went back he'd changed the prices to $5 and $6 a piece. I looked at the carts then went over to the counter and asked about the price change. He said, "Oh the price on those on eBay went up so I changed them." I shook my head and walked out. Never went back to that shop again. The price didn't go up, demand did so you raised the price on them. I guess you figured if I was willing to buy them for $1 why not see if you'll buy them for $6. Not happening. They weren't ultra rare titles but they were one's I didn't have that I'd like to get. I had seen them on eBay, they didn't go for those prices. I was po'd and thought fine they can sit and collect dust for another 10 years or 20 years for ya. :x

That vendor should sell at EBAY then.A flea market is NOT a place to try and get top dollar for anything.Sometimes $8.00 for a cart at the thrift or flea is well worth it,cus 3-4 dollars say for a game on Ebay will cost you 2-3 times more by the time you pay shipping and handling, insurance and all that extra crap.I would have paid the $8.00,but thats just me though.

I mostly agree with you. When I sell something online (eBay, CTCW, amazon.com), I have a much broader group of prospective buyers than what I would get doing a 4 hour yard sale at my house. Pretty much I get more money online because of the larger audience and because people will haggle for big bargains at a yard sale. So, when I sell something online, I am happy because I usually get what I consider to be an acceptable sum for the merchandise, far more than what I would get at a yard sale. Furthermore, because I am happy with the sale, I charge as close as possible to exact shipping (usually I am within one dollar or less), I recycle boxes and packing materials so no charge for that stuff (not even a new roll of tape), and I don't feel the need to inflate shipping by charging people handling for crap like waiting in line, cost of gas, and other nonsense (since the post office picks up packages directly from my house, how can I ethically claim this anyhow?).
