Oh, you guys are just miffed because thrift store owners are no longer ignorant about how much these games are actually worth. The days of scooping up 2600 games at a dollar apiece, especially now that they're nearly thirty years old and the internet can tell everyone everything about anything? Gone.

Amen. The problem is, those sellers look at the worth on the internet, THEN overprice them for profit.

Now, I believe, this puts more to the vendors theory that the game must be worth more than she was asking just by reaction only. I learned, after trying to convince a flea market vendor, that if you give them the reaction they desire, like anger, then they realize in their mind that the item must be worth more than they are asking for it. You just started this person on a quest to find out what games are rare and which ones are not. She will be all over the net trying to learn the rarity scale so she can up her prices on guys like me who might stop by just to browse and notice the lower price games are common where the higher priced games are where they should be. This vendor probably has a stash heading for eBay next week that will get her more than what she would have asked for in the first place. My theory. Keep them ignorant. Just because they are asking say $8 for their games could be a good thing. Especially if a Waterworld is in the mix. When they don't get interested in rarity they are the most vulnerable. ;)

she's probably on some flea marketers forum posting about a crazy stupid customer that had the nerve to tell her that her most treasured Atari cart was worth less than the sale price she already had on it, and all those forum posters are most likely telling her to stick a price tag doubling whatever the current amount is...

Been going out to the flea markets and thrifts alot the last few weeks. I have paid as low as 50 cent each for a couple of carts I didn't have to as high as $3.50 each. Yeah I do see more and more people going $3 to $5 on 2600 games in the fleas and thrifts and thats fine. But $8 is way to high. But hey if ya pay $8 then they will charge $8 and by some of your post well.

I fear she may be telling other folks that some Atari Collector slammed her game on the table and called her "stupid" - all over a measly $3.00 - less than the price of a cup of fancy coffee. Business is business. These people are trying to make money - and should not have to applogize for it. If you don't like the price or their attitude - smile, don't buy it, move on and give your money to someone else - It isn't worth it to get all worked up and give all Atari collectors a bad name by acting poorly. It is always harder to be the bigger person, but it is always smarter.

"You give what you get"? I think the quote goes "You get what you give" ;)

One time I was in a local store that deals in used games and was looking at a specific cart. The label was pretty beat up, but I wanted the game to play it. When they told me the price ($9.00) I knew that was what a cart in like new condition was worth. I handed it back and (get this) smiled at the saleman and told him that was more than I was willing to pay for it. He said he understood and placed it back in the case. Later that week, the same guy gave me a great deal on some Lynx games because we had developed a good relationship. And then later, my daugher was looking at a Nintendo gameboy and he made her a sweet deal on that as well.

Keep Playing

Yep.Thrift stores have caught on.Just last year one would be able to get a 2600,yes even a heavy Sunnyvale 6 for $7.99.I saw a heavy 6 last year which i grabbed, for $ 45.00.They realised a heavy six is worth more or they SHOULD get more than $7.99.That goes for all Ataris now at the thrifts where i live.Any other Atari,7800,400/800,whatever are now $20.00.I've noticed prices going up everywhere, and yes,i usually get the "but it sells for $ enter amount,on EBAY"at the flea markets. There is a certain limit i go for classic gaming. Most have been pretty reasonable when i said that they wanted too much. Most would say"well, how much do you think its worth?"id voice my opinion, and i would be reasonable back and offer a reasonable price,result?......a new game or console!.If they dont bite, its thanx, and i walk away, thats all. :) ;)

Ugh, how many times must we go over this:

DO NOT "HELP" THE FLEA MARKET VENDORS!

Would you also tell them that they're selling a game for too low? Of course not! But by pointing out what is "too high," you effectively gave them a REASON to check if you were being an ass or were correct. So off to eBay they go, checking their prices.

"Well, what do you know!" they say. "My Pac-Man for $8 WAS too high! But look here, the Qudrun that I was also selling for $8 goes for much more! So does this Waterworld and Crazy Climber and..."

In essense: When you give them a clue, you give them the world. When thrifting, play your cards to your chest and don't give them any info whether high or low. Don't react. Don't OVERreact. The last thing you want is someone checking your info to the point that they discover they're actually UNDERCHARGING on the good stuff.

Im afraid there isnt much one can do to avoid vendors charging more for games due to seeing them go for higher on Ebay or whatever, they're all catching on whether one opens their big mouth or not.People have info at their fingertips, all they have to do is look on the internet, they dont need someone to tell them to charge more, for everything they sell, not just games of course. The internet is a Godsend,as well as the Devils advocate. But like i said,Flea Markets is NOT a place to sell like the internet, commanding top dollar for old obsolete junk, just because EBAY says so.Flea Markets are for bargaining. The EBAY says this,Ebay says that should stay out of Places like Flea markets. If more people realised this and stopped buying from vendors with that Ebay mentality, that would be great.I have seen vendors lose lots of sales because of that.I wish they'd make up their F$#%in minds. If they want to sell at EBAY prices, then go sell at f$%^in Ebay.Ebay, has no business in Flea Markets or anywhere else, but at or on the actual site.

Hmm..

I think all of you are just plain lucky to have Atari carts in your area to begin with! I haven't seen ONE where I live (or anywhere nearby) for YEARS. Seems the "demand" has gone away, or the supply has dried up, or no one in my area even remembers what an Atari 2600 is. I'm jealous of all of you, actually. Had I a bigger range of items to purchase, I would be much happier...well, and much poorer with a very upset wife. :ponder:

Ok so I was at a flea market today and I see a women running a booth with video games. So I go over to see if she has any Atari game and she does! There was only one I didn't have Eggomania . I ask her how much she says I'll go $8.00!!! I said thats to high she then says like a bitch pshhh NO IT'S NOT! My wife says come on lets go I said no and offer her $5.00. Now thats still to much but I think hey if I get it off ebay with shipping I would pay $5.00 or so. She then says you know that game is worth more than five dollars! I said no not really and she says yeah ok whatever. I slam the game down call her stupid and walk away.

Wow not for nothing but that was very immature.

On an added note:

The summer is almost here and flea markets should start croping up again! Perhaps THIS year I'll get lucky and snag some Atari 2600 games. Let's hope!!
