SRGilbert #1 Posted May 3, 2009 Got a lead on a Star Wars arcade machine and I need to make an offer. Says it works, I still have to check it out in person though. He's thinking $500, which seems fair. Suggestions?
Crazy Climber #2 Posted May 3, 2009 I would snatch it at $500, assuming it looks decent and the monitor works...actually MI is not too far from me...
SRGilbert #3 Posted May 3, 2009 Well, I should have known better, but it turns out the guy was more interested in jerking me around than selling me the game. He had a Star Wars machine that apparently worked and a Return of the Jedi machine that didn't. Found the ad on Craigslist yesterday and emailed and called the guy immediatly. First he tells me he's had lots of offers. Then he emails me I can have the Star Wars machine for $500 and gives me the address. I write him back that $500 is fine and I will be there after work to check it out. An hour later he calls me and says that he's had an offer to buy both machines for $850. I tell him if that's the way he wants to be, then go ahead and sell them but to call me if the other seller backs out. After I got home from work I decided to write him and tell him that I thought it was pretty rude of him to back out of the sale like that and I was very dissappointed. He responded with "Hey, if you show up with $850, I'll sell them to you instead." So not only was he jerking me around, he was willing to skip out on his other agreement as well. Really classy. Later last night I get an email from him that the other guy stood him up and the SW was mine if I still want it. I wrote him back saying I will take it for $500 upon inspection and set up a time of 4pm Sunday to check it out, he agreed. Now at 3pm today I get an email from telling me someone showed up unexpectantly and bought both machines and he's sorry for the trouble! I just responded with a simple "Thanks for nothing." Forget that Boston dude who kills hookers, it's guys like this that give Craigslist a bad name.
R.Cade #4 Posted September 23, 2009 People always do that on the Craigslist ads I've answered. You've got to call and go there NOW when the ad is listed to get the good deals. I bought a guitar amp recently and the guy was acting like he wanted to raise his offering price because he "got so many calls" about it after mine. It was broken and needs repair (which of course wasn't mentioned- he said it worked great) but it was still a good deal at the original price.
