lushgirl_80 #1 Posted May 3, 2009 (edited) For me it was the original Atari 2600 version of Pacman Alot of people hate it but I always thought it was alright and played it so much in the '80s. I look at it as a rather different version of Pacman...I call it "Ghetto Pacman". Edited May 3, 2009 by lushgirl_80

Rybags #4 Posted May 3, 2009 Pretty sure it was Pong (or a clone) in a pub when I was maybe 8 or 9. Although, not exactly played properly since I was the only one on it and it was a 2-player machine. Home systems - probably the Pong/Soccer/Hockey/Shoot type thing that was done in countless "TV Games" type machines in the mid-70s. Proper computer - It might have been that Kingdom/Serf type text game on the System 80 (TRS-80 clone). Proper console - a mate had a 2600 very early on by our standards. So, likely one of the early 2600 games like Space Wars and such.

the maddestman #6 Posted May 3, 2009 It was one of the following (I don't remember exactly, I was only 3 or 4 at the time) Radar Rat Race or Lunar Lander on the Vic 20, or Star Raiders or River Raid on the Atari

I should dig up the picture. We were on vacation in Hawaii and the lobby of the hotel we stayed in had two space invaders and a sea wolf machine. aftermac #11 Posted May 3, 2009 Super Mario World Kids... My sister and I had a similar conversation a while back and SMW was her answer, too. That was pretty depressing. I honestly don't remember. It was probably Pac-Man or Video Olympics for the 2600. It could also very easily be the Pac-Man arcade that was at a local sub shop my aunt worked at when I was a kid. Then again maybe it was bowling for the Odyssey 2?

lushgirl_80 #13 Posted May 3, 2009 Wow Super Mario World is a good game to start on .... I was 5 when I first played Atari. It beloged to my older half brother, and one day when my sister and I were visiting my mom afterschool and my bro was out ,my mom asked us " You two wanna play Pac-man??" ...I remember thinking "Packman"!?!?Sounds weird, like help the mailman or something?but the first time playing that game I remember being totally hooked. Then I remember my mom bought Strawberry Shortcake and it was over. My brother got mad because he had to share his Atari from that point.
+Ransom #14 Posted May 3, 2009 I don't know for sure. It may have been Pong or something like that when I was very young, but the first one I remember playing was Midway's Gun Fight, which was similar to Outlaw on the 2600.
STICH666 #15 Posted May 3, 2009 Arkanoid. I played it back in 1994 at my camp (Camp LaSalle). They had a machine set up in the lounge.
BydoEmpire #16 Posted May 3, 2009 No idea, but probably something in the arcade (Space Invaders? Pac Man?). The first one I very clearly remember is when my family got an Intellivision for Christmas (I also remember going to the store with my dad to help decide between a 2600 and Inty). The family played Poker & Blackjack, Horse Racing and Baseball all day. That was it for me - changed my life forever.
yuppicide #17 Posted May 3, 2009 The oldest game I can remember playing first is something like Sprint 2 http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9739 Not sure which one it was, but it was similar. They had it in a bowling alley. It used to sit off to the side by itself. I loved to look at it. It was a creepy, yet beautiful feeling.
Spoon #18 Posted May 3, 2009 Pac-Man in the arcade. And for the record, Radar Rat Race is full o' win.
darthkur #19 Posted May 3, 2009 I can't recall specifically. Probably either Pong, Starship I, Killer Shark, Space War or one of the Sprint games. Lots of mechanical types and pinball machines before that though.

hhwolfman #22 Posted May 3, 2009 Pong at All Star Lanes, Telestar Home Arcade at My Aunt Connie's House, The first Atari 2600 game ever played was Adventure.
Dauber #23 Posted May 3, 2009 The first video game I ever, ever played was this pong-like video game system my brother had in the late '70s...It was probably a B&W system, but since he had it connected to a B&W TV, I can't say for sure. I remember that the controller was a slide pot that just went up and down. I actually saw this old thing at the Midwest Gaming Classic in '06...I think it was manufactured by K mart. I do remember that after a while my parents made him get rid of the game for some reason. First ARCADE game I remember playing, I think, might have been a Deep Scan/Headon II machine they had at the Kroger in Bourbonnais, IL. I also remember playing Pac-Man at the Holiday Inn in Bradley, Illinois as a wee child...and not understanding why I couldn't eat the monsters. And, first Atari video game I remember playing at home....Space Invaders, on my cousins' 6-switcher. (Heavy or light, I don't know.)
kaishaku #24 Posted May 3, 2009 It would have to be one of these on the 7800: Pole Position II Ms. Pac Man F-18 Hornet
sandmountainslim #25 Posted May 3, 2009 It was either the Pong home console my cousin had or this arcade machine with a machine gun mounted in which you shot down WWI Bi-Planes, this machine was at the old skating rink in Rainsville, Alabama back in the Disco days. Does anyone know what that game may have been? Wp
