Ite #1 Posted May 7, 2009 Wow I just got this off Ebay. I remember liking it as a kid, but I can't even get past the very start. I can only walk down to the part under me and the left and right screens. I picked up a holocube but that is all, what the heck do I do? Where do I go? I can't seem to jump to the next platform or anything. I feel dumb because I remember getting far when I was a kid. What am I missing here?
+Cafeman #2 Posted May 7, 2009 Don't you get the holocube and them jump back up to the screen you came down from, and then proceed to the right (jumping over gaps and shooting little trash-can robots) ..?
Ite #3 Posted May 7, 2009 I can't seem to jump though. What do I press?
ComputerSpaceFan #4 Posted May 7, 2009 There are some awesome walkthru's on Youtube, I would recommend you use them. I had to to get past a particularly frustrating section in the first levels too. By the way, Flashback is now out for the iPhone. I only wish it would also come out for Wii Virtual Console.

SRGilbert #6 Posted May 7, 2009 I can't speak to the Jag version, but the Sega Genesis version is one of the best games EVER.
Isgoed #7 Posted May 8, 2009 Ite, just take a look at the "manuals" section here at Atari Age. You'll learn how to jump
+Stephen Moss #8 Posted May 8, 2009 I can't seem to jump though. What do I press? Without checking the manual I think it is A to jump when running, when standing just press up. If you did not get a manual a lot of them are stored on here, click on the"Jaguar" link in the top right corner of the webpage then click on the manuals link on the right hand side. akator #9 Posted May 8, 2009 Flashback is by far one of my favorite games of all time, regardless of the platform
Mord #10 Posted May 8, 2009 Flashback is by far one of my favorite games of all time, regardless of the platform I have that for jaguar, and played it back in the day on other consoles, but while I want to play through it completely I have to hold off on it for now. Only connection to the TV I have is through an RF switch thingy and my TV hates things connected that way -- always gives a fuzzy picture and nearly no sound. :/ I should seriously consider getting another TV. ComputerSpaceFan #11 Posted May 12, 2009 By the way, Flashback is now out for the iPhone. I only wish it would also come out for Wii Virtual Console. Interesting! There's a review on Slide to Play for the iPhone game and they say the rights to Flashback are in limbo. I wonder if that's why it hasn't come out for Virtual Console. Does any one have any info on this lack of licensing for Flashback? http://www.slidetoplay.com/story/flashback-review In 2004, Delphine Software, the original developers of Flashback, went bankrupt. Flashback is now considered "abandonware", so anybody with the skill to port it can sell it without paying a dime for the rights.

No, no, no, a thousand times NO! repeat after me, "There is no such thing as abandonware" Whoever bought the skeleton of Delphine at the bankruptcy liquidation owns it. If you port it, and it gets visible enough, they will find you (or more correctly, their lawyers will). Edited May 12, 2009 by poobah

Only if it comes to pass that copyrights expire, or it is freely given(like some Vectrex stuff), can you do as you like, although sometimes it seems to be gotten away with. "Better Mario Bros," anyone? That one still surprises me. The big N must be starting to slip...

"Better Mario Bros," anyone? That one still surprises me. The big N must be starting to slip... So I'm tempted to get this Flashback game for the iPhone but worried it might get removed someday. I listened to the Slide to Play podcast and they said they talked to the remaining people who used to own Delphine. Those people apparently told the developer of the iPhone game that they no longer hold the licence, no one does, and to go for it. The developer apparently decided to make this application really act like more of a shell/emulator which, once installed goes online and grabs the ROM from freeware websites. That's the legally grey foundation for how this game got to where it is. Having heard all this stuff, I am pretty convinced this means Flashback is never coming to the Wii Virtual Console so this iPhone version is my only chance to get it. So let's say the current owners of the license do hear about this and it ends up with Apple pulling it off the App Store. Would it then uninstall from my iPhone and I'm out five bucks? Or once I've got it, does it stay on my machine permanently? Anyone know?
