Gabriel #1 Posted May 10, 2009 So, what would the Tunnels & Trolls Colecovision game have been like had it actually been programmed and produced?
cimerians #2 Posted May 10, 2009 When I first bought my coleco and first saw it in that grey catalog....it was THE game I wanted and I waited for a while and of course it never came out (along with that Turtle game). I would guess it would have been like Gateway to Apshai by Epyx or maybe a more complex Venture. I have the prototype ROM somewhere....its only the title screen. Rik #3 Posted May 10, 2009 Man that sucks! There were quite a few super awesome games to be relased for the CV if it wasnt for the crash.Dracula is another one i wanted to get.Coleco advertised in magazines for these "SOON TO BE RELEASED" games.Anyway Dracula looked so awesome and looked forward to getting it like one would not believe.Words cant describe my disappointment upon realising it wasnt going to be! cimerians #4 Posted May 10, 2009 Oh yeah, Dracula was another one. I wanted that game badly too. I remember seeing pictures if it in magazines etc.
BydoEmpire #5 Posted May 10, 2009 It would have been awesome, because you just can't beat 8-bit dungeon crawlers (I've been playing a lot of Gateway to Apshai on the XE lately). I had the pen & paper game, which was cool because it was sort of designed to be playable by a single person.
2600Lives #6 Posted May 10, 2009 I have the original T&T books as well (and several of the Grimtooth's Traps supplements). Great stuff. Too bad the game was never completed, though I do believe a computer game did come out, right?
Gabriel #7 Posted May 10, 2009 It would have been awesome, because you just can't beat 8-bit dungeon crawlers (I've been playing a lot of Gateway to Apshai on the XE lately). I had the pen & paper game, which was cool because it was sort of designed to be playable by a single person. My question is prompted because I've been looking at the Tunnels & Trolls 30th Anniversary Set a lot recently. I heard of but never encountered the P&P game back in the day. Based on the 30th Anniversary Set, I'm wondering exactly how they could make it into a video game without completely abandoning the concepts of the P&P game (as AD&D Cloudy Mountain did). Yet, the impression I always got from notes about the CV game was that it was going to be a Wizardryesque style dungeon romp. Off topic, did you play T&T as a campaign or just a series of one shots? However, I can't try it out because it won't run on my PC.
2600Lives #9 Posted May 10, 2009 Campaigning never really worked very well with T&T in my experience, so it was usually just one-shots. You tried DOSBox for that T&T game? It'll usually run just about anything that's DOS based.
+Ransom #10 Posted May 10, 2009 Honestly, having played the paper and pencil version (along with AD&D, Traveller, etc.), I still expected the CV version to be most like AD&D on the Intellivision. Of course, at that point I had never even heard of Wizardry.

cimerians #14 Posted May 14, 2009 Oh wow....all those pictures bring back memories. Especially the Dracula ad. I remember that Horse ad too. Coleco was brutal with vaporware but I still love the system. I have the T&T tin can anniversary as well as the original rules and solo books. I also played AD&D, Cyberpunk and some other paper and pencil RPG's back in the day. I have the T&T computer game on floppy disk. I may try loading it one day with Dosbox. My favorite pc games years ago were those goldbox SSI games.
