Sgt.Pepper1983 #1 Posted May 12, 2009 (edited) I recently bought an original copy of final fantasy 3 totally on impulse, assuming that I'll like it because the ds version is one of my favorite ds games. But I wasn't thinking about the fact that I wasn't a serious enough rpg fan to play the original version of final fantasy 1 all the way through and ended up replacing it with the ps1 disc just because of how hard it was. So what I want to know is how the difficulty level of the nes version of final fantasy 3 compares to the ds version. Reaperman #2 Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) I have trouble tolerating the artwork on those DS remakes, so I guess I prefer the Famicom version. I tried playing a translated rom of it once, but the english ran out after a while. Oh well. Edited May 14, 2009 by Reaperman
Sgt.Pepper1983 #3 Posted May 17, 2009 So far I've only beat the first boss, but what I've seen is more enjoyable than the ds version.
108 Stars #4 Posted May 17, 2009 That´s not an original version, but a repro. Anyway, I do prefer the DS-version because the NES´ graphics are just below what I can take today; Master System is like my minimum.
rockman_x_2002 #5 Posted May 18, 2009 I have to recuse myself from this poll since I've only played the DS version (and enjoyed it). I haven't played the NES version enough to really determine if I prefer it or not, though I do tend to prefer the "classic" graphics of the NES, assuming the remainder of the game feels like the original Final Fantasy (which I have played through, and the beginning of FF3 seems to give that appearance). Sgt.Pepper1983 #6 Posted May 19, 2009 I forgot how much more grinding time was required for the nes versions of Final Fantasy games when compared to the gba and ds versions. But so far 6 ZZ Top records is making grinding time fly by.
Reaperman #7 Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) I forgot how much more grinding time was required for the nes versions of Final Fantasy games when compared to the gba and ds versions. But so far 6 ZZ Top records is making grinding time fly by. the japanese have kind of a fetish for mindless level grinding. Or at least they used to. You're playing a full-on Famicom version with a translation patch, afterall. Square tends to take out a lot of the grinding elements for US releases, so most of the time we're spared the chore of levelling. Heck, final fantasy 4 came in 3 different difficulty levels (original, easy, and north american). Edited May 20, 2009 by Reaperman
Sgt.Pepper1983 #8 Posted May 30, 2009 I made it to the point where all I have to do is grind until I'm strong enough to beat the void. I'm at level 57 right now. On the ds version I usually wait until level 60 before fighting the void. Does anyone know if level 60 is good enough on the nes version?
