16x16 fixed pitch font wanted

Recommended Posts

Any ideas? I'd like a fixed pitch 16x16 font to use in an Interlaced demo.

I'd design one myself, but as is I have to whip up an 8x8 and 8x6 one, and don't want to spend too much time on such things.

The resultant 16x16 text I'll be doing will involve using 2 characters across to represent each letter, so an uppercase only Font would be fine.

Cheers, candle. But that seems to be 8x16

I might just have to try a quick & dirty job using a Windows font in Paint.

There's some fonts built into ROM on CGA/EGA/VGA cards. I think they are 8*8, 8*14, 8*16 and probably some others. I think they replicate pixels for the 40-column modes. Perhaps you need permission to use them.

Thanks, GroovyBee.

I think I'll borrow something from that site you linked.

There's also this site, alas from C64 stuff, but does that matter ?

http://kofler.dot.at/c64/font_01.html

There's a fair few 2x2 fonts if I remember rightly..

There was also a site dedicated to ripping fonts from Demos, but I can't for the life of me recall it now..

Cool.

I've prettywell settled with what I need... grabbed one of the fonts from the site GB linked and modified it.

Made a quick & dirty 8x10 Font by modifying the standard Atari charset.

All that remains is to do 8x8 and 8x6, and I'll likely just use the standard charset for those, with a few adjustments to lower-case to make them fit.

Here's a 16x16 font I designed ages ago. Each character is 16 rows of 2 bytes each.

Is that royalty free to use?

I remember some MediaClips CD that had a bunch of audio/video/image stuff that was royalty free as long as you use less than 10% of their stuff together.

The fonts on the Pickford Bros site are free to use in indie game development. I guess if you used it, credit them for it, and they'd be happy.

I do have a request to those that posted attachments and font sites and that is that they are free to use and don't have any royalties or require any permission. I don't think anyone wants any kind of backlash from posting the wrong info.

I'll also admit I really don't know anything about this stuff but I do find it interesting and that I think this thread is a very good resource.

From the Pickford Bros site :-

"As so many people have trouble designing nice looking game fonts I thought it would be helpful to include all my old bitmap game fonts here (or all the ones I can find), in a usable, downloadable format for homebrew or indie game developers. Feel free to use any of these fonts for whatever purpose you see fit."

The last sentence is the one that counts.
