Aegis #1 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) Hi gang! Just got bitten by the retro bug (again) and I've been shopping for some VCS carts I always wanted as a kid and never got Question is, I've just picked up an Adventure cart in terrific condition - pretty much looks brand new - but it's got a really old price sticker welded on the front on the box - how do you remove these without damaging the packaging? Or would you leave it on there? Gotta say, price stickers are a real bugbear of mine - it's just begging to be peeled off but I know damn well it's gonna tear and make a mess... Thoughts? +Ransom #2 Posted May 19, 2009 Some people use a hair dryer to heat the glue, then carefully peel the label off.
Aegis #3 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) Neat! Unfortunately, being a guy and living in a flat on my own I don't have one of those Any other suggestions? I was thinking of using lighter fluid to get the gunk off but I'm worried it'll damage the finish on the box... Edited May 19, 2009 by Aegis

You should be able to remove the sticker itself using either method, but as far as the glue itself...some kinds can be removed and some simply cannot. Lighter fluid will almost certainly damage the box. Edited May 19, 2009 by PingvinBlueJeans
Aegis #5 Posted May 19, 2009 Cool! Thanks for the tips! Wish me luck - it'd be a shame to spoil it seeing as it looks so pristine otherwise - I'll post a pic once I've removed the offending sticker
Rik #6 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) Go to the thrift store and get a hairblower, the ones I've seen are no more than $2.99.Costs less than a bottle of Goo Gone. When the sticker is off, then use Goo Gone to remove the glue residue, but just a drop or 2 on the RAG FIRST!!!!!!,then gently rub,if color comes off stop.Use a white rag so you can tell more easily if you're removing any ink from box.Like one said above, some stickers are welded to box,and the glue is dried and cant be softened with a hairblower, just have to live with it. +Psionic #7 Posted May 19, 2009 Use a white rag so you can tell more easily if you're removing any ink from box. Goo Gone will rarely, if ever, remove ink from the box. The main issue is that if it's left to sit too long, the orange oil will seep into the paper and possibly discolor/stain the box permanently.

shadowdoggie #9 Posted May 20, 2009 Just make sure that you don't remove any stickers that say Zellers or else you'll have people telling you that you have a Taiwanese Pirate game. Oh settle ... it's just a joke ( http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...&hl=zellers )
+Nathan Strum #10 Posted May 20, 2009 Bestine rubber-cement thinner (available at most art supply stores) will do it. Kind-of pricey, but does a great job removing adhesives. Or, you can always go with a belt-sander and 32-grit paper. (Oh wait... that's for use with E.T. cartridges.)

+Nathan Strum #13 Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) HEY!! Poor E.T....he never gets any recognition other than being a BAD game! Perish the thought! I was simply commenting on how difficult it is to remove silver labels from E.T. cartridges. I'd never say anything disparaging about E.T. classicgamingguy #14 Posted May 21, 2009 YOU sir, are a liar! But alas, yes...it was a sad day those of us that obtained this "wonderful" E.T. cartridge, played it, and said (out loud), "What a piece of s**t this is!" Then, we'd all get our mouths washed out with soap by our Mother who overheard it. Besides that, my parents were particularly upset to spend the money (back then), and then find our their son thought the cartridge should have been put in a skeet shoot contest!! Could you repeat in the form of a car analogy? Of course: Rev it and you could get Goo(gone) everywhere, slow and patience wins the race. This ain't Dragster , you know. (Yeah, I actually put thought into that one ) It's true though. These "unknowers" put these big obnoxious bleeding red stickers on the label of the cartridge. They smear at the drop of Googone (or competitor) or strike back at you by taking some of your cartridge's label with it as you peal. Your first instinct is to get that mother off and free up the beautiful label, but patience is required for the big pay-off.
