Which game variation of Missile Command...

...is closest to the arcade speed and difficulty?

I know the bases etc are different but I was wondering which setting best replicates the difficulty and the speed of the missiles.

well to get anywhere close to the arcade version of missile command you need to buy missile

command TB

 

Hell even if you only kinda like missile command you need to buy missile command TB

Yeah, missile command tb is just plain great. Although I still like the original version, tb is closer to it's arcade counterpart.

I do love the original though. arcadeshop.com has a PCB that can be used in a generic arcade cab which I've got, but I still need to get a proper trackball for it.
