<Retro-Freak>
Now i must admit, i only have 2 Emulators being: Kega Fusion (Megadrive/Genesis) Nestopia (Famicom/NES) Personally i feel the above emulators have the best, speed/accuracy ratio and straightforward interface to play and configure with. Fusion supports Mega CD disks from your CD Drive! It also supports plugins to enhance the graphics for higher resolutions the games are rendered at. So what emulators do you use for any of the game systems and why? Discuss. Edited May 25, 2009 by <Retro-Freak>
mimo
On a PC Stella for the Atari 2600 ProSystem for the Atari 7800 Atari800win Plus 4.0 for Atari 400/800/5200 ColEm- colecovision MAME, for mame Why, because they are still supported, regular updates/tweeks, and they work Tend to use xbox or Wii more and more for emu, though you can't beat the real deal Edited May 25, 2009 by mimo
MN12BIRD
Yeah I have emulators for basically everything from 3DO to TG16. NES to N64. But my favorite overall is Fusion. It runs Master System, Game Gear, Genesis, SegaCD, and 32X games so well and all the features work solid.
Blackjack
Ones I've settled on using: Arcade - MAME, of course Atari 2600 - Stella Sega Genesis - Gens Nintendo - Nestopia Super Nintendo - Snes9x Turbografx 16 - PCE Master System - Mekaw Colecovision - Mekaw The "why" behind each choice comes down to ease of use in most cases. Then if you expand into "simulators", I use Visual Pinmame for Pinball and LED Head for Mattel handhelds (great program). Trebor
HANDHELD:Atari Lynx - Mednafen 0.8.B That's one I haven't heard of....how does Mednafen stack up against Handy? Works great. I haven't run into any issues and screen rotation works on the fly (F8 I believe) for games like Gauntlet. Most importantly (For me) it launches from command line to full screen which is extremely important for the front end I use for most emulators - Game Launcher... http://www.dribin.org/dave/game_launcher/ Mednafen does take some configuring and isn't as "friendly" to use as Handy. It's perfect for me though. -Trebor

I have to look into them. Do the arcade emulators use the same roms as Mame or do they require their own sets?
Trebor
Do the arcade emulators use the same roms as Mame or do they require their own sets? CPS3 Emulator = MAME Crystal Emu = OWN SET Daphne 1.0 Beta [Laser Disc Emulation...Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, etc.] = OWN SET Final Burn Alpha 0.2.97.06 = MAME Mjolnir 0.4 GL = OWN SET Model 2 0.9 = MAME Modeler 0.9.3a = OWN SET Nebula 2.25b = MAME Raine 0.51.5 = MAME (DX sets excluded) Viva nonno 22.0.3 = OWN SET ZiNc 1.1 = MAME The above is per my configuration and of course others may have things setup differently. Additionally, some of the emulators I list as using MAME set, may indeed use a MAME set...but an older version. I tend to keep all ROMs associated with a arcade game under my MAME ROM sets. Of course if a ROM is updated the current one is used, but those that are renamed or obsolete remain in the same zip file as the current set. Also, a couple have not been updated in years (Modeler, ZiNc) and emulation is as good if not better in MAME. However, due to speed issues or other issues, those emulators may serve as a better means for playing the game they support. Daphne requires not only ROM files, but additional audio/video files due to the type of games it emulates. -Trebor Edit: Set use update. etschuetz
Ah, emulation. I enjoy it way to much lol. Here is my list of Choices. Atari 2600 - Stella Atari 5200/8-bit - Kat5200 Atari 7800 - Prosystem Atari Lynx - Handy Vectrex - MESS Sega Master System, Genesis/32x/CD, Game Gear - Fusion NES - jNES, NESter and FCEU jNES I prefer most SNES - SNES9x or zSNESw Game Boy/Game Boy Advance - Visual Boy ColecoVision - MESS Intellivision - Bliss TurboGrafx-16 - PCE Playstation - ePSXe Outside of that, I don't really do emulation for the newer stuff. Mostly because I have all those machines hooked up. I love it when I can use an emulator that can do more than once system. MESS is good for that, but has some issues from time to time. I used to use it for Atari 7800, but thanks to reading a few posts, decided to stick with Prosystem. Fusion for Sega is great. emulates darn near everything with perfection. I can even play actual Sega CD games in the tray, just like ePSXe. ePSXe doesn't get used to much, simply because of my PS2, or the PSone I have. I don't download ISO's much, but if I did consider it, it would make a difference, but I own around 60 PS games. I haven't found much luck with Saturn emulation, nor do I care for N64 emulation due to finding a good control scheme without getting a specialized adapter (already have on to use PS2, XBox, and Gamecube controllers via USB). I also admit that there really aren't any other systems out there that I care to emulate as all of the older systems share similar games.
