tz101
I found a complete 5200 system at a yard sale for $10. It came with 4 game carts and the original Atari controllers, along with an Atari trac-ball controller and two Wico controllers and their accompanying Y cables. The problem is that the trac-ball controller fire buttons are unresponsive, and the ball movement does not register on screen. The start, pause, and reset buttons, along with the number pads all seem to work fine. I took the controller apart, cleaned the ball (it was filthy), and cleaned carbon buildup from each connection point on the circuit board. Can anyone offer help on how to get the ball movement and fire buttons working again? The metal rollers that are inside the trac-ball controller will move the on-screen character if spun with the unit disassembled. Maybe if I put some rubber sheathing over these metal spinner shafts? Any advice is appreciated.
82atari5200
Best electronics sells brand new ones (the best way to go) or at the back of the 5200 field service manual it has troubleshooting tips and schematics for the trackball controller. The rollers are probably caked up, wrote a Repair Guide here: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=726298#p726298
