Article: Taking It Old School (Prehistoric Times)

Recommended Posts

Nice to finally get some history on the programmer, etc. Funny what makes the mainstream news. Thanks for the link!

Only skimmed the article, but sounds interesting... too bad about the Hozer thing.

...too bad about the Hozer thing.

Because of the label quality you mean? All things being equal and assuming the guy is amicable enough to deal with, I wonder if Al would even want to distribute such a game...

Nice that an AA members prgramming tool was being used by a non AA member

Didn't read the article (too damn lazy), but I was not aware that batari Basic was an "AA member's programming tool." Even though bB was envisioned, developed, and initially released here at AA - and obviously most of the bB users are indeed AA members - I was under the impression that anyone anywhere is free to use it to develop their own games for the 2600. In fact, wasn't it the basis for college course in 2600 programming? I don't believe all of those college kids were members of AA. Some of them eventually turned up for advice and to show off their stuff, but AA members? Nope.

Or were you being ironic or facetious or something?

I don't understand why the programmer isn't a member here at AA, I mean THIS place is the very heart and hub of the Atari programming world right now and most of the Atari gamers hang out here and play the new games/talk about old ones. It just doesn't add up why he isn't amongst us.

It could be because so many users here trashed his game based on seeing one screenshot of it.

I'm not criticizing. I'm just surmising.

I know that you guys probably get alot of newbies saying "i'm gonna make a game! here's what its gonna be about" before even starting, but we should take this as a hint as a group and realize that kindness and support goes a long way.

I'm guilty of being one of the loudest trashing his game based on a screenshot. He did himself a disservice by only posting one screenshot and I don't recall if he ever provided details on the gameplay. The reality is that the concept and gameplay isn't all that bad.

The fact that he sold out in 45 minutes is misleading without knowing exactly how many carts he sold. So, if one is going to tout that feat then tell us exactly how many carts that was.

In fairness I provide a link to an article publicizing his game.

I read in the article posted about him that he only had like 50 copies or something.

The real reason he got thrashed was because the text with his one screenshot read like a letter from a Nigerian Prince. It smelled like a scam. "Send me $20 $15 for a pre-order of a game of which you only get a single screenshot..". Then silence/evasion for days. In a post N.E.R.D.S./Last Ninja world that is not going to fly.

Even in the attached article in this thread, what is this crap about him having staff to work on more games? How many employees is he paying with the money made those 50 carts at $15 a piece. The whole artificial inflation of what he has done/doing makes me gag.

Cheers!
