Im Thinking of Leaving the Genesis/SMS scene?!

Recommended Posts

I have been steadily drawing away and away from the video game scene. In 2005 I sold everythig that was ATARI (2600,5200,7800,8-Bit,ST's)

Leaving me with the NES, SNES and Genny.

Now the Genesis and SMS are the ones that get the least play. So Im thinking of selling that collection off to add on to the NES and SNES

heck, I'd keep them and mod them. They're great fun to mod up with led's, paint and whatever else a twisted mind can think of.

Why not move into combo systems? If things go right, I'm about to pick up a LaserActive unit that'll run both Genesis and Turbo Grafx games if I can get the right modules. It'll also run its own native games plus Sega CD and Turbo CD games as well. If that happens I will be getting rid of my Genesis. Then there's the PSX, which doubles as a DVR and a PS2. Should I get my paws on one of those, my PS2 might get the boot...or at least put into storage.

Perhaps a Master Gear is the way to go for your master system games, or maybe a Power Base Converter instead. That, along with the Game Gear and maybe a Nomad, would take up a lot less space...as long as you don't count the spare batteries. On the plus side, you could take your games on the go and still play 'em on real hardware.

I really don't get into the SEGA either. I just keep it around because it has a couple good games that I might want to play every once in a while. I have about 50 games for the Genesis, 60 or 70 for the SMS, and a boxed 32X. I also have a boxed Game Gear.

I never understood why Sega was so popular in my opinion the NES and SNES games are far better. I think the main reason I haven't sold it all is because it is a good collection and most of the stuff is boxed.

I"m thinking about getting back into Sega. I already reached my NES goal for the year and can't even remember the last time I got any Master System games. I guess that's the way the collecting scene goes.

compared to nintendo, sega is not very popular. just look at the prices for games

sega has a good following due mainly to them sticking to their arcade roots longer than nintendo. nintendo redefined a gaming console from 'bringing the arcade home' to offering more involved exploration and story driven games. a lot of atari and golden age gaming fans prefer arcade style games, which is why sega has a dispropotionate number of fans on atari age

and the plastic shell cases for carts certainly do not hurt :)

Sega sucks. Flat out. 90% of the used games I find at fleamarkets for Sega are sports games. I hate sports games. I don't think there's hardly any games on the Sega I even like.

And yet you visit a site called "AtariAge" in 2009?

:P

I love my SMS but don't actually play my Genesis as much these days.

Sega sucks. Flat out.

What is with these forums and people acting as though their personal subjective opinions are facts???

I like Sega from a hardware perspective. The Genesis and MS both used actual 68K and Z80 processors and neat little tricks built from the inside out. Networkability, overclocking, extra ports, there are other things that I can't remember right now, too.

Glad you're not leaving Sega, A2600. It's a fun thing.

Maybe the only games you find are sports games because people are keeping the good ones.

Maybe that's because people KEEP the games they consider good and DUMP the sports titles...I personally like my CDX a lot and have a few games, IMHO, that are very good (including take a *deep breath* a soccer game - Wolrd Cup USA '94!).
