Destiny of an Emperor (NES) Glitch!

So apparently there is a glitch in Destiny of an Emperor that has caused my game, and enjoyment thereof, to come to a screeching halt. I'm late in the game (way too late to restart) and I need to forge the mystic swords, so I need to get the ore from the cave. Yet when I get to the cave, the chest that is to contain the ore is already open and when I search it, there is nothing to find. No matter how many times I go in the cave, chest is vacant. Looking it up, I find one dude suggesting fighting like 45 battles and then re-entering the cave, tried that, no dice. I've reloaded the game, copied the file and tried from a different slot, NOTHING. Needless to say the game cannot progress without this step, so I am stuck and angry.

 

Anybody else know anything about this glitch or a way around it?

 

Too bad too, DoaE is a GREAT game.

The most I found was that this is a known glitch and at this time there is no fix or workaround. They suggest the 45 battle thing (which you did) then check the chests again (which you did) and if the items are still missing try a few other random battles and check again, if no good then sadly you will have to start over.
