+Random Terrain #1 Posted June 1, 2009 Since I'm going to play Xbox 360 games on my monitor, I'd like to hook the sound up to the amplifier that I use with my PC. Here's the back of the amplifier with speaker wires and sound from PC connected: I already have the left and right sound cables from the Xbox 360 converted and ready to plug into the amplifier using stuff that I already had in a drawer that looks a lot like these: I can keep plugging and unplugging the PC and Xbox 360 sound cables, but is there a cheap way to have them both plugged into the amplifier at the same time? Everything I have tried with stuff I already have in a drawer so far puts all the sound in one speaker instead of two sources sharing both speakers in stereo. Thanks. +Random Terrain #2 Posted June 1, 2009 Just solved my own problem in a way. Since my computer is usually on anyway, I just plugged the Xbox 360 output into the back of my computer. Wouldn't mind knowing a solution to the original problem, though, if I ever want to play with the computer off.
Video #3 Posted June 1, 2009 (edited) So your havieng the RCA out on the X-box (and on a computer) go to an RCA in (looks like a headphone adaptor) on an amp? I do know you can get RCA combiners, that would work fine, I've done that to hook my XBox and other game systems to my sterio (it's just two RCA in's going to a single RCA out) Shouldn't cost more than $5 at walmart You could probably find a deal and get a pair of them for under $5, just look around your local electronics (wallyworld, or even Radiosack) If' I'm getting what your saying right, then this should work with what you currently got. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about (forgive the tiny size, just do a quick search on google) edit- Sorry about the double images, didn't know AA didn't post the image in a preview Edited June 1, 2009 by Video
Kripto #4 Posted June 1, 2009 The Y cable will work but will dirty up the sound somewhat. If you care enough about the audio quality, a cheap switcher or mixer will provide better sound for several times more money.
+Random Terrain #5 Posted June 1, 2009 So your havieng the RCA out on the X-box (and on a computer) go to an RCA in (looks like a headphone adaptor) on an amp? Xbox 360 is converted to 3.5mm so it will fit into the amplifier and the usual cable coming from the computer is 3.5mm. Need a way to have both 3.5mm cables plugged into the amplifier instead of plugging and unplugging and plugging and unplugging . . . I have a few things that look like this: Tried them, but the stereo does not combine. I wish they made something that looked like that, where sound from 2 sources could be heard in stereo. Oh well, at least I can hear everything the way I have it set up now as long as the computer is on.
Video #6 Posted June 2, 2009 Yeah, true combiners can dirty the audio (or video) signal when you use these, but I've seen no relevant amount of degradation on my setup (this is how I do it, to hook up the X-box, and my console selector box) I also do this in reverse with with the cable box so I can have one signal go to the TV streight, and one go to the VCR so I can record stuff (why not just go through the VCR you ask? Cause it's my grandparrents TV and they can't get the whole "input select" Idea down, so when the VCR is done recording, it shuts off leaving a blank screen ) So your havieng the RCA out on the X-box (and on a computer) go to an RCA in (looks like a headphone adaptor) on an amp? You may have a Mono to Sterio Adaptor there (it's for pluggin in two mono sourses such as some really OLD headphones, into a single sterio plug) I've got one of those, it sucks as it, as far as I'm aware, has no use. What you want is a splitter, plug in the splitter, and plug your Xbox into one end, and your computer into the other end, thing is, most splitters I've seen are wires, not a simple block like the mono to sterio. I'm sure someone makes them, just haven't seen them. I picked up a sterio splitter from Dollar Tree for a dollar you cheap bastid Hope that works for you. I'll have to check whatever store is still around that might have a 3.5mm Stereo Splitter Cable the next time I go out. Thanks.
