Blackjack #1 Posted June 2, 2009 I haven't played any in a while and I'm looking for some recommendations for a real time strategy/ builder for PC. In the past I've enjoyed: The City Builder Series: Caesar 3, Pharaoh, Emperor was pretty fun. Sim City 3000 was decent. I LOVED Empire Earth 2!
Atariboy #2 Posted June 2, 2009 (edited) I'm not sure if its what you meant to ask for (Things like SimCity 3000 aren't real time strategy titles), but my favorites have been Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer Red Alert, and Army Men RTS. Most RTS titles now are too complicated and cater to people that have been playing them heavily for 15 years, rather than casual fans like myself. So I don't have many recent suggestions. If you want something more in the vein of the SimCity series, I've enjoyed the Rollercoaster Tycoon games. Edited June 2, 2009 by Atariboy
Blackjack #3 Posted June 2, 2009 What should I call games like SC3000, builders? Empire Earth would definitely be RTS though, right? I forgot about Rollercoaster Tycoon. Yes, had it, loved it!
Atariboy #4 Posted June 2, 2009 (edited) Well, a genre name can be pretty much anything you want it. Calling SimCity a RTS game isn't really incorrect since its happening in real time (Unless you pause the flow of time) and its simulating something. But generally, gamers consider RTS games to be things like Command & Conquer, or after checking up on it just now, your Empire Earth game. Things like SimCity 3000, while a strategy game no doubt, is more specifically a city building simulation than a RTS game. No clue what Rollercoaster Tycoon would be called, a theme park building simulation? They're all strategy games though. shadow460 #5 Posted June 2, 2009 Any Command & Conquer title is good. Renegade is more FPS than RTS, but there are elements of both in the game. Also have a look at Emperor: Battle for Dune. It's Westwood's first 3D RTS game. It stars Michael Dorn (yep, the dude who played Worf is in there) and Nicholas Worth (from Yuri's Revenge), among others.
