Dirty Cuttle cart?? maybe??

Recommended Posts

Lately... My CC only gives me my happy colored bar/fishy graphic letting me know to hit play 1 out of every 10 times I try and use it now.. I sometimes get the load for a moment.. than a signal tone from my tv and a blank or blank with a green stripe across the screen... than it is shut off the atari.. remove the cart... re-insert the cart.. turn back power.. and wait and see if it works this time..

could it just be the connecters are dirty somehow on my CC?? anyone else have this problem??

thanks :)

Never heard of any problems with the Cuttle Cart .. Try it in another 2600 console and report what happens ... I would die if my Cuttle quit working ..

That is the odd thing... I only have one console.. and it was working fine (up until about 4 months ago) and all my carts work fine..

Are you using an Atari Power Supply? If you are using a PS of 200 mA or less, the cuttle may not be getting enough power .. (it requires more than the average Atari 2600 cart).

Maybe Chad Schell might chime in here ..

Sounds like it's not making a good connection with the 2600. Do other 3rd party carts work fine? It might be the contacts on the atari need to be bent out a wee bit to make better contact.

Maybe the cuttle cart's pcb is just a fraction bit thinner, causing the bad contact.

I don't think it's a power problem, as that would typically just shut off your Atari. (Giving you static or whatever you see on your TV normally when you shut off the atari.)

I don't know what would cause that problem, it certainly could be bad contacts. The connectors on the Cuttle Cart are gold plated, so they should be fairly durable, if you look at them, are they still shiny? If not they probably need cleaning. You can clean the contacts using rubbing alcohol, although make sure you let it dry before you reinsert the cart. (Especially if you use the lousy 70% alcohol by volume that seems so popular hear in So. Cal.) Just dip a cotton swap in alcohol and rub the contacts.
