mmbe #1 Posted June 8, 2009 Are the electromagnetic shield plates really needed to connect a 32X to a Genesis One system? I know you need the special cable for hook up to a Genesis one but wanted to know about the plates. Thanks.
Trooper #2 Posted June 8, 2009 Nopes, they aren't needed. I've never used the ones that were included when I bought mine.
MN12BIRD #3 Posted June 8, 2009 Actually if you don't use the metal plates you may have a problem.... the FCC will kick down your door and take your Genesis away
Trooper #4 Posted June 8, 2009 Haha, that's true of course.
carmel_andrews #5 Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) perhaps the original genesis/md has shielding issues where the 32x is concerned Edited June 8, 2009 by carmel_andrews
kool kitty89 #6 Posted June 8, 2009 I've actually read the opposite in some cases, people haveing issues with the plates used that were resolved by removing them, completely unnecessary for functionality either way, just like the RF sheilding inside the genesis itsself. (japanese consoles lack it as they don't have the tight regulations like from the FCC) The plastic spacer for the Model 2 is somewhat necessary to provide proper support for the unit and avoid stress on the cart slot, but inless you're rough with the console it isn't necessary either. (and lacking it you could easily use a couple sheets of cardboard wedged in there
brojamfootball #7 Posted June 8, 2009 Agreed. Metal things not needed. I don't have a 32X anymore, but never used them when I did and had no problems.
mmbe #8 Posted June 9, 2009 Thanks for the information. I'm thinking of buying a 32X system from Collectors Cards & Games. They have them in stock for $25 (includes the system, ac adaptor, & cable - no plates). I just wanted to make sure I didn't need them before deciding to make the purchase.
