VectorGamer #1 Posted June 12, 2009 What's the deal with numerous games with no sound? In particular: Asteroids Space Fury Star Castle BattleZone Space Invaders The first four are all vector games although Asteroids Deluxe and Tempest work. Is their a specific MAME32 ver that one needs for the respective game or are their different config settings.
NE146 #2 Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) Maybe you need the samples for those games? (although I don't remember Battlezone needing them). If so, get them and put them in the \samples folder and see if that fixes anything. http://samples.mameworld.info/ You may have to click on "older samples" on the left for some of the games like Asteroids That being said, mame32 is pretty outdated. It's now called "MameUI". Or, you can try out MameXT And see if those work any better since they will be newer Mame builds Edited June 12, 2009 by NE146

VectorGamer #5 Posted June 12, 2009 Also, I found to get rid of the "OK" screen to add "skip_gameinfo 1" to the MAME ini file...
mbd30 #6 Posted June 13, 2009 Yeah, you need the samples for some MAME games to have sound.
NE146 #7 Posted June 13, 2009 I run the old version... That's fine.. although personally I think they've made a lot of improvements in games and speed in the newer versions.. might be worth your while to at least check it out. For example, Asteroids (and I think Donkey Kong) don't need samples anymore. The sound in Phoenix is much improved. etc. Anyway you can have multiple mame versions on a computer without a problem
