the maddestman
Nope, not at all, most adults I know also play video games
StoneAgeGamer
No...shoot my Dad never played video games until he got a PS2 (and now has a PS3) and plays them all the time. Its much more mainstream now than it was in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Plus many games nowadays are geared towards adults. Video games are not just for kids anymore. 108 Stars
I must admit I do feel kind of embarrassed. Certainly the fact that I play videogames would be one of the last things I told a girl. Even with people who know a few games I often feel a bit embarrassed when they ask me what games I play;me being mostly an RPG-player I usually get confused smiles in response. Crazy Climber
Not at all, I do get some cracks about still playing the old stuff since most of my friends wouldn't dare touch a last gen system.

shadow460
Not at all. Sony's target audience with the PS1 was 20 to 25 year olds, and I was in that range when I bought my first one. Ditto with the PS2. No one asks questions at all when I whip out the PSP for something. On the other hand, I get all kinds of odd looks and the occasional "what the ____ is that!?" when I carry my Lynx II or my Game Gear. Even better is when I carry my Game Boy brick, 'cause people recognize it and they say things like, "Aw man! I remember that! I haven't seen one of those in years!" I had a buddy of mine come over one day shortly after I got my 5200. He turned around and saw it and was transfixed for a minute. I told him swing by sometime when we were off work and we'd sit down to some games, even though I only had like three games at the time. The funny thing was he ignored the NES and the 7800 completely. I've had people ask me in job interviews what my hobbies were. In fact, I was late to one one day because I had lost track of time while replacing the laser in a PS1. The interviewer asked me what I had going on that day, and I told her that I was going to go finish up that PlayStation. I got the job, and I just set up the PS1 a couple days ago for my wife to play Sim City 2000 on.
mbd30
It may have been somewhat embarrassing to be an adult still playing video games back in the 1980's, but gaming is now a mainstream entertainment on par with movies. Now while it is socially acceptable to be an adult who plays "Guitar Hero", "Gears Of War",etc.... I think it's still considered quite geeky to spend a lot of time playing and collecting classic games. Not that there's anything wrong with being a geek. Video
No,why be embarrassed about something that makes you happy.I can think of hobbies and pastimes that are alot more questionable, morally speaking.Video gaming is good, clean fun. Exactly, making living creatures no longer living is one of my favorite hob....Uh..wait... Yeah, some people will never 'get' games, like someone like me would never 'get' collecting stamps or common rocks. (it's pretty? So's coins, and if that hobby goes south, you can at least spend them ) For the most part, Gameing is generally accepted now days though, nobody looks at you twice if your lugging a PSP or a DS, you might get strange looks or questions from some of the ginormous stuff like Gamegear or Lynx though. Yeah, this day in age, almost everybody will play at least something (hell, even my grandpa has one of those dedicated sudoku things, and my grandma likes brainage) At best, people will be like "cool, you play games" at worst, it's "eew, you play last year's games"
carmel_andrews
Perhaps the youngsters think we are still thumbling over our single button cx-40's then try and master one of those multi button modern joy/gamepad thingies

Reaperman
Why would anybody need to know that I play video games? I guess previously my movers have all had to know since they pack things. Outside of that, I keep generally conversation away from it unless I know somebody pretty well.
Sgt.Pepper1983
These days there are just as many games being made for adults as there are being made for kids, if not more. Even back in 1976 when everyone said that gaming was a kids thing there was a game called death race that was clearly not for kids. The first pornographic games were made in 1982 back when people were still saying that games were just for kids. So why would any adult be embarassed by the fact that they still play games? +Charlie Cat
Hi guys, I never was embarrassed then, and i'm certainly not embarrassed now!! I'm 26 years old, with a serious illness at this given point. So, I really could careless if a hotshot came to me saying...... "You still play Video Games, and how old are you?"...... The fact of the matter is that "aren't you old for Video Games" is really a line of the past. Gamers are getting older, so there is no need to feel disturbed about it. Anthony.... RevEng
I'm 39, and don't feel embarassed by being a gamer. But occasionally I'll get treated in a patronizing manner when I go to a game store, like I'm some clueless dad buying games for his kids. The irony is I usually know far more about the subject matter than the person trying to lend me a clue. It doesn't really help the situation that I'm usually buying Nintendo titles, though I consider their stuff less immature than "Super-Bloody 3rd person Murderer". mattyg
I'm not embarrassed , however , my wife doesn't like it too much when I go out wearing my Atari and Donkey Kong Tees. Funny thing is I get asked all the time if I know where to get an old Atari! I actually get stopped in the street on occasion! - and as I'm always looking to trim my excess I've actually made some sales out of this
jboypacman
Why be embarrassed doing something you love like collecting/playing videogames besides videogames are so mainstream now that anyone and everyone plays them.
Ross PK
In Britian loads of adults play videogames, I guess it's seen as acceptable. In fact the average age for playing games over here is supposed to be in the late 20's or early 30's surprisingly. You would get some funny looks for still playing classic games though, and/or having a big collection. xg4bx
we need a good organization out there then, that speaks for gamers and corrects the misinformation in the media and public. if the average gamer is pushing 40, why does the media still represent it as a hobby for drugged-up teenage metal heads and retarded children? especially considering many of these same people most likely have a wii at home. gaming is becoming more mainstream but it hasn't quite "arrived" yet. i think its still far more socially acceptable to be obsessed with sports and other interests of that ilk. Atariboy
I'm not embaressed to be a gamer, but then again I don't go out and advertise that I'm one, so it rarely comes up. But you wouldn't catch me dead pulling out a portable in public. There's places for playing videogames, there's no reason I can think of why I'd feel compelled to do something like play a PSP or GBA when I'm at a restaurant and such. Plenty of time when I'm at home for videogames (Unless its a arcade cab ). Edited June 15, 2009 by Atariboy
