Numen - pre release version

Recommended Posts

well... just when cleaning my basement I found a CD labeled with "atari stuff" and had a look. and I found versions and source codes of Numen WIP version plus some emails where Fox describes how he will link the demo and which part comes when...

for historical reason I have attachted the whole archive which was lying on my CD...

.ASX files are sources for XASM or MADS with xasm library.

and you can have a look on a early version (demo.xex)... ;) and when looking into the sources you see that we even discussed an alternative title screen... the one in the gfx folder I have used for my first HIP tests back in 1996... btw. what is DRC doing nowadays? and the demo contains an alternative msx...

all files run on a 320kb machine...

Cool.

Hasn't quite got the energy of the finished version.

Some of the effects that didn't make it in (on the seperate images) are pretty cool though.

Some fX are better than in the released version. Particular the Donut and the Taquart Logo. And some artwork....

Problably the demo would have been better with a shorter presentation of the "3D Engine" and to have the missing FX left in it.

the torus fx is faster but has more rendering bugs and does not have a moving background?

I like the "space" hip which was not used and the interference balls... don't know why it was not used at the end... we should ask eru and fox...

Well,

its a bit sad (at least for me) that many of the program files are only available as "shortened" ATR images and not pure *.XEX files... I would have liked to have all the files as *.XEX so I could put them onto one or two standard ATR images.

Maybe someone can unpack the ATR images and recreate the XEX files for me...?!? (I guess they were done with Xboot.EXE by FoX and thus are not so easy to turn back into XEX files; with Ken Sider`s MakeATR tool its much easier, just use UnmakeATR to undo the shortened ATR image and retrieve the XEX file.)

might be an idea to include all the cut out/left out bits from original numen into a new numen demo....call it 'son of numen'

Hey, the game.xex is actually somewhat playable with working doors.
