FlightSuit #1 Posted June 18, 2009 The reason I ask is 'cause this looks like it could be a sweet deal, but it also looks like it could be an opportunity to get burned: http://dealsclick.com/
ninjarabbit #2 Posted June 18, 2009 I vote no. The warranty is only 90 days and it's probably an older model that's going to be more prone to eventually breaking down (probably on your 91st day of ownership). If a deals sounds too good to be true then it probably is.
moycon #3 Posted June 18, 2009 I would get that either. You can bet it's an old model.
Lord Helmet #5 Posted June 18, 2009 If you get the same warranty as a new one that protects you against the rrod...then yes, I'd get one without question.
FlightSuit #6 Posted June 18, 2009 That deal was good for one day only, which was yesterday. And according to Dealnews.com, the systems in question came with a 90 day warranty, but it was unclear who, exactly, would be responsible for honoring that warranty. So it's probably just as well that I passed on it.
godslabrat #7 Posted June 18, 2009 With the Arcade bundle now as cheap as it is, I vote no. The 360 is probably the least reliable system of the last 10 years, no sense in multiplying your chances of getting a dud. 90 Days isn't nearly enough time to protect a system that had to have its standard warranty boosted to 3 years. FlightSuit #8 Posted June 18, 2009 Damn. It's the Renault Fuego of game consoles! I think I'll just stick to my Dreamcast and my Intel iMac until a nice, cheap PS3 bats its eyelashes at me.
kroogur #9 Posted June 18, 2009 Depends on where you get the refurb and who is honoring the warranty. For a 90 day warranty I would say absolutely not, I got my first 360 refurb at Gamestop and approximately 24 hours later i got the RROD so they said bring it back and they gave me another one and there are instructions in the box to register the console with Microsoft which I did and got a 1 year warranty on it. Which is good because it wont detect the HDD anymore and is on it's way to the service center even as I type to get fixed for free. So I wouldn't shy away from a refurb but only if it's backed by a nice long factory warranty.
+HammR25 #10 Posted June 18, 2009 I bought a refurbished one and haven't had any problems with it besides RROD, which MS fixed without any hassle.
Pete5125 #11 Posted September 27, 2009 I got mine as a refirb at a local game shop it lasted a 1/2 month before i got the red ring of death, they sent it in for me, because it was registered w/ game exchange since it was a refirb. Got it back home red rings of death, called Microsofts 800# they were mad because it wasn't registered in my name, the next day I took it back to game exchange, they called it in for me and we fixed the problem over the phone, technicaly Microsoft has given it a 3 year warranty since it broke within the aloted time, but the Exchange place went under so I will have no way to get warranty work, since you have to be registered with them and they send you a UPS box after a phone call to fix it....so unless I was buying from Gamestop/EBGames and getting a warranty then I would say no, I know of several Xbox360 owners that have had issues
FlightSuit #12 Posted September 27, 2009 God, the Xbox360 is a joke! And not even a very funny one!
nathanallan #13 Posted September 27, 2009 Glad you passed on it, and I agree 100% that you ought to wait for a cheap PS3. Also get a cooler like the one I profiled on my youtube channel, Make it last a good long time!
+Random Terrain #14 Posted September 27, 2009 If it's not a Jasper, no thanks. I've left mine on for days with no problems so far (it's near an air conditioner).
moycon #15 Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) Yeah the original topic of this thread really should clue people in NOT to buy a refurb 360 unless they can tell it's a Jasper. I leave my 360's on for sometimes days at a time, Flightsuit, what's a joke is people who even after multiple warnings buy refurbs most of which were produced years ago. Face it 100% of the early 360 are going to fail. Just accept that and you'll be fine. You want a 360? Snag a Jasper, They are cheap and it's not that hard to identify one guys and contrary to your statement that it's not funny, it most certainly is. It's like putting your hand in a fire and then yelling that you got burned. No!?? Really!!?? Edited September 27, 2009 by moycon
Video #16 Posted September 28, 2009 If you want it to screw around with, and a cheap system to rip open, maybe. But I wouldn't bother with one unless it was HELLA cheap. Pay the price, and get Microsofts long ass warranty for when it RROD's on you.
FlightSuit #17 Posted September 28, 2009 I'd rather buy some other system and not have to pay extra for RROD insurance.
+Random Terrain #18 Posted September 28, 2009 I'd rather buy some other system and not have to pay extra for RROD insurance. Since the the PS3 is $299 now, you could get one of those. My sister's boyfriend plays almost nothing but sports games on their PS3 and he loves it.
moycon #19 Posted September 28, 2009 I'd rather buy some other system and not have to pay extra for RROD insurance. Why would you pay extra for RROD insurance when the problem is all but behind MS with the release of the Jasper model? Wouldn't that be like buying flood insurance when your house is built on a mountain in Arizona? That said, like RT said just get a PS3 they are super cheap now! Still this begs the question, why do you still frequent the 360 forums if you have no intention or interest in buying one?
FlightSuit #20 Posted September 29, 2009 Um... because I'm a troll, and I have nothing better to do than make people feel bad about buying a 360? No, actually, I don't frequent the 360 forums; I simply have AtariAge configured to send me e-mail alerts when somebody posts a reply to a thread in which I've posted. Heck, if RROD really is a thing of the past, that makes the 360 a lot more appealing. From what I've seen, its prices are coming down as well, so the PS3 really won't have that much of an advantage, will it? And the 360's got a lot more games to choose from, yes?
moycon #21 Posted September 29, 2009 (edited) And the 360's got a lot more games to choose from, yes? Both systems have solid game lineup and each with enough exclusives to warrant a purchase. Get both! Still, If I could choose only one I'd go for the 360 for various reasons. (Live kicks Sony network butt, Netflix streaming, 1 Vs 100, more and better exclusives (IMO), better controllers (IMO), face plates, etc... etc... I know one thing, no one could make me feel bad about buying a 360...or three. Edited September 29, 2009 by moycon
Mendon #22 Posted September 30, 2009 Still, If I could choose only one I'd go for the 360 for various reasons. (Live kicks Sony network butt, Netflix streaming, 1 Vs 100, more and better exclusives (IMO), better controllers (IMO), face plates, etc... etc... It's been a long, long, long time since I've seen a 360 faceplate in a store or read about any exclusive ones. Are they still made and sold in stores or given away as pre-orders anymore? I got maybe 7 or 9 freebie ones that came with game purchases or pre-orders, like Tomb Raider and Call of Duty 3, but I haven't seen one given away with a game in years. FlightSuit #23 Posted September 30, 2009 What's the point of a face plate? As soon as I start using a computer or console, what the thing looks like becomes a moot point.
Lord Helmet #24 Posted September 30, 2009 What's the point of a face plate? As soon as I start using a computer or console, what the thing looks like becomes a moot point. Nothing. However, some people like to personalize their console, so they like them. I could care less though.
moycon #25 Posted September 30, 2009 What's the point of a face plate? This seems like an odd question to me. What's the point of a flashy car? What's the point of an avatar on a forum? What's the point of any graphic tee shirt you own? (I know I don't have to give any more examples, but I could go on and on if you would like.) My statement was if I could choose only one, and then I listed my reasons, you personally might have other reasons. It's ok, when I hear that people collect stamps, or climb mountains, or spend their week-ends watching football, I say the same thing. What's the point? I guess the simple answer is, the point is not everyone likes the same things? Every now and again you'll still hear of a faceplate being released it's not too often, not like it was when the 360 first came out, so many people probably feel like you FlightSuit. Sucks for me. I just thought of another reason...achievements!!! (And before you ask, no they don't have a lot of point beyond trying to meet the goals required to get them)
