having problem with cassette tapes

Recommended Posts

I have just bought two cassette tapes off of ebay:

- Strange Odyssey

- Aztec Challenge

The sellers claimed that they work, but I cant load the damn things onto my 400! :x

I am new to using cassette tapes, but I am not having any trouble with loading and saving the tapes that I made.

i am trying different parts of the tape like 0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35....100 and I just get errors like 138 140 19 21 142 etc...

could there be a problem with the tape (from a magnetic field when they were mailed maby???)

the sellers on ebay said they are tested/cleaned/work.

i would be VERY greatful if someone could help me with my problem. :)

Why would you try different parts of the tape? It will either load completely, or not. If an error message is displayed at any time, the load has failed. There could be a number of reasons for a load failure...not necessarily the fault of the tape itself. Trying to load the program over rom cartridge memory, for example...or misaligned tape heads in the recorder.

Dunno about the other one, but Aztec Challenge is a machine-language program. Rewind the cassette all the way. DO NOT have Basic inserted. Hold down the START key as you power up, press PLAY on the recorder, then hit the ENTER key to begin loading.

Yeah.

All those errors you where talking about are most seen in Basic (using CLOAD command)

When you have a load error with a machinelanguage tape, you'll see probably a BOOT ERROR and on XL/XE machines the SelfTest screen is coming up, on atari 400/800 I think after boot error you'll see MemoPad, but since I never used atari 800/400 I'm not sure of that :D

Good luck!

Tip: I always used to wind the tapes on just past the clear bit, with my finger or a pencil before loading... happy days :)

Had a quick look at your web-site... how about creating a game for the 8-bit Atari ;)
