Inky #1 Posted October 3, 2002 There's a fun little puzzle game I enjoy called Descarte's Enigma, which you can download at Everett Kaser's Website. I was wondering if this game could be translated over to the 2600 well? Not being much of a programmer (and I am not forming a company to have other people program my ideas), I don't really know. I don't think it would be hard, but then that's me..

I was wondering if this game could be translated over to the 2600 well? Nice puzzle game! Most of the pain in doing a 2600 version would be rendering the huge number of digits that indicate the groups on each row and coloumn... we'd be VERY limited and this (together with the lack of resoultion) would also limit the complexity of the puzzles a lot.. So much, that I don't think it would be very fun! Greets, Rasty.-

Thomas Jentzsch #4 Posted October 3, 2002 BTW: What do you think about that strategy game? Automation Wars
slapdash #5 Posted October 3, 2002 Automation Wars I have that on my Mac as "Critical Mass" and I've thought about porting it to the 2600 if I ever get around to any coding. Only, I suck at that game and so couldn't write any kind of AI for it. Another "maybe" since it's not exactly display intensive would be Core Wars. Another "maybe" since it's not exactly display intensive would be Core Wars. Hm, I think RAM will be a big problem and CPU power might be, too.

I suppose it might be possible to set up a "volatility index" for each square and use that to compute advantage, only I'm not sure still how to use that index... Another "maybe" since it's not exactly display intensive would be Core Wars. Hm, I think RAM will be a big problem and CPU power might be, too. Heh, how about the arena is only 96 bytes; that gives you 32 bytes to referee with, and they really fight it out in 96. Programs can only be 10 bytes in length max? Ha ha... Okay, so this might not work. I guess I should review the actual rules again and see whether it can be cut back, see what needs to be tracked... Not gonna happen soon though.
