Croc7800 #1 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Hey guys, When I got my Atari 2600's all I had was a little 19 inch cheap Apex TV. Yeah it works great and all but I wanted that old-school look. So I went on Craigslist and bought myself a vintage 1983 RCA ColorTrak TV. It sure weighs a lot but you gotta love that look and feel of Quality, before RCA turned into RCM (Radio Corporation of Mexico) Having the plastic woodgrain on the TV just makes it that much better. So my question is, who here has gone and bought, or refurbished an old TV to go with that sweet 2600? You don't have to take pictures but they are always welcome. Thanks guys. mos6507 #2 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) CRT TVs are headed for landfills at an amazing clip. If you want an old TV, that's the first place to go. If they haven't been rained on to oblivion (not a problem when I lived in Southern California) they should still work since people are largely getting rid of them due to obsolescence and nothing else. Now with TV having fully switched to digital I would expect CRTs to be thrown out in even greater numbers (despite converter boxes). I have a 13" TV I got this way. I like the late-70s-early-80s TVs for style but they don't have RCA inputs. I won't subject myself to RF anymore. +Nathan Strum #5 Posted June 30, 2009 So my question is, who here has gone and bought, or refurbished an old TV to go with that sweet 2600? I didn't need to get one... I've had this since it was new: It's not normally on its side, however.
+SpiceWare #6 Posted June 30, 2009 So my question is, who here has gone and bought, or refurbished an old TV to go with that sweet 2600? I modded my Atari for S-Video and Stereo and use it with my old C= 1084S (used to use it with my Amiga).

LYNXGUY #8 Posted July 1, 2009 As soon as I get my desktop computer working again I will post the old vintage 19" TV I am using for my Atari setup
classicgamingguy #9 Posted July 1, 2009 I DID have my Atari 2600 hooked to an older TV, but it didn't work. So I switched back to a more modern TV with a cable connection. The great thing is I work for a waste management municipality, so TV's come in here all the time for recycling. I can have my pick of the crop at any time, and most of them work perfectly. -Steve

I bought a 19" off of Craigslist for $12 for my retro gaming parties. Don't knock the Apex - I have one!! : ]

+Nathan Strum #12 Posted July 2, 2009 Now that's impressive - how the hell did you do that? I plugged in the TV, and turned it on its side... Merlin's Walls actually requires you to play the game that way.

missioncontrol #14 Posted July 2, 2009 I keep meaning to stop by goodwill and see if I can get an old woodgrain set. My other option is maybe get some woodgrain contact paper (if I can find something close) and give a more modern crt an older look...
