PhantomDJ #1 Posted June 30, 2009 According to the arcade-history.com entry: [ http://www.arcade-history.com/?n=asteroids...tail&id=126 ] "The Rev.1 version had an invulnerability glitch, which allowed players to hide in the upper corners of the screen (in the score) and be invulnerable to collisions. Also, players could make their ship fly backwards by thrusting in one direction until reaching full speed, and then quickly turn around 180 degrees and continue thrusting." I have been playing with this game a lot in MAME and cannot seem to replicate these bugs. Can anyone give more precise instructions on how to trigger these? I would love to be able to see them in action. I have reason to believe that these glitches don't actually exist, at least in this version of the game. Please help me verify that these bugs either exist, or don't , if you can. Thanks, Don Hodges http://www.donhodges.com
DaveD #2 Posted July 2, 2009 I've also read of this bug before and have been unable to replicate it in MAME. However I seem to recall reading someplace (don't ask me where as I unfortunately don't remember) but the bug was due to a hardware issue I thought. Something about the way the vector beams were being drawn on the monitor or something like that. Nothing that could be reproduced with just software emulating the chips. PacManPlus #3 Posted July 2, 2009 (edited) Not to de-rail the topic, but I just want to say I thoroughly enjoy reading your articles about the various bugs (and your fixes!) Keep up the great work! Edited July 2, 2009 by PacManPlus
mckafka99 #4 Posted July 2, 2009 I havent tried in MAME yet but I can confirm that the "reverse thrusting" trick did indeed work on some machines. I used to do it all the time on the Asteroids machine in the local bowling alley back in the day.
